Patricio Freire believes he’s the best featherweight to ever live – and he plans on using the Bellator featherweight grand prix as a means to prove it. A longtime veteran, dual champion Freire (29-4 MMA, 17-4 BMMA), who also holds the Bellator lightweight title, defends his 145-pound belt in the opening round of the tournament when he takes on undefeated challenger Juan Archuleta (23-1 MMA, 5-0 BMMA) on Saturday in the Bellator 228 main event in Inglewood, Calif. “Pitbull” has competed in the promotion since Bellator 15 in 2010. One year after his debut, Freire clinched the featherweight title with a unanimous victory over Daniel Straus at Bellator 45. The Brazilian lost and regained the 145-pound strap twice over the next eight years.
