Glover Teixeira produce one of the biggest wins of his career Wednesday when he battered and stopped Anthony Smith in the UFC on ESPN+ 29 main event. Although many thought the stoppage came way late, Teixeira (31-7 MMA, 14-5 UFC) lived up to his job assignment and put on a workmanlike effort in weaving through Smith’s (32-15 MMA, 8-5 UFC) early offense to turn the tide of the fight and win with a clear-cut TKO in the fifth round of the main event, which took place at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Fla. Teixeira is now on a four-fight winning streak, which is just one shy of his best run in the promotion. That’s pretty impressive, especially because he’s 40. The Brazilian challenged for the UFC title in April 2014 and lost a unanimous decision to Jon Jones at UFC 172. He’s arguably closer to getting back to that stage than ever, and he could put himself over the top by beating another top contender such as Dominick Reyes (12-1 MMA, 6-1 UFC) or Jan Blachowicz (26-8 MMA, 9-5 UFC)
