UFC 244 proved to be an entertaining affair from start to finish, even if no one exactly loved how the night’s main event ended. Jorge Masvidal (35-13 MMA, 12-6 UFC) was absolutely brilliant for three rounds against an always gritty Nate Diaz (20-12 MMA, 15-10 UFC) in the headlining bout at New York’s Madison Square Garden. Claiming the first three rounds on all three judges’ scorecards, Masvidal was in clear control of the contest, but Diaz’s legendary toughness was expected to carry him through the final two frames. Unfortunately, a nasty cut over Diaz’s right eye ended the contest before the fighters were able to answer the bell for the fourth, and Masvidal was awarded the special “BMF” belt that was created just for the fight. Despite the disappointing ending, the fight was still quite fun, and there were plenty of other highlight-reel moments on the night, as well
