Alexander Volkov wouldn’t be intimidated though, and it almost turned in a full-fledged brawl. After stepping on the scale at UFC 229 ceremonial weigh-ins, Lewis (20-5 MMA, 11-3 UFC) got in Volkov’s (30-6 MMA, 4-0 UFC) face and knocked his traditional Russian headwear to the floor. Shoving followed, then Volkov threw a kick that fell just short of “The Black Beast.” UFC President Dana White and on-stage security were able to separate the monstrous heavyweights before things escalated too far out of control, but now the tension going into the matchup has increased significantly.
