In the 13 years that Zuffa has owned the Ultimate Fighting Championship, it has taken the promotion from the brink of extinction to one of the hottest sports properties on the planet. Over the course of that time, they’ve also provided the opportunity for numerous fighters to not only make a living in their chosen sport, but to thrive. Several have gone on to become millionaires, and many have cemented legacies. But along with any success story come the critics who believe that things can always be better. Such has been the case with the UFC recently with a few of the promotion’s former fighters, and even current UFC fighter Tim Kennedy , discussing the issue of fighter pay and whether or not it’s enough.

It seemed fitting to end on a tournament, the same way he’d started some 13 years earlier, with a three-fights-in-one-night kind of deal back home in Rio de Janeiro. Back before anyone knew who Renato Sobral was. So at 37 years old, “Babalu” enlisted for one more tour of duty in Bellator’s light heavyweight “Summer Series” tournament and promised himself that win or lose he’d call it quits when his run ended. Seth Petruzelli retires from fighting at age 33 following his Bellator 96 knockout loss to “King” Mo Lawal on June 19. He follows Renato “Babalu” Sobral into retirement. Babalu retired in the cage following his Bellator 96 loss to Jacob Noe. Petruzelli (14-8) made the announcement via his Facebook page on Friday. “I want to thank my family, friends, fiancé and fans for being by my side these past 13 years plus of my MMA career. Every time I fought it was to please and excite you but most of all make you proud of me. Up until a couple years ago it pleased and excited me as well.

Seth Petruzelli announces retirement following KO loss at Bellator 96

After nearly 13 years as a professional fighter, Seth Petruzelli will step away from the cage. The 33-year-old Petruzelli (14-8 MMA, 1-2 BFC) made the announcement Friday morning on his Facebook page. His announcement comes following a knockout loss to Muhammed Lawal on Wednesday night at Bellator 96. “The Silverback” goes out on a two-fight skid, with both losses coming in the first round as part of Bellator’s most recent two light heavyweight tournaments. Ex-UFC fighter Paul Kelly sentenced to 13 years for heroin trafficking

Former UFC fighter Paul Kelly was sentenced to 13 years in prison for heroin trafficking. The Liverpool Crown Court sentenced the 28-year-old English fighter this past week. He was found guilty in May following a four-day trial . In the trial, prosecutors convinced jurors that Kelly was what amounts to a major drug dealer, working with friends to move heroin by using couriers. “In my judgement you decided to supply Class A drugs when your contract with UFC was terminated,” Judge Mark Brown told Kelly, a father of two, according to the Liverpool Echo . “You obviously enjoyed the high life and saw selling heroin as an easy way to make money.” Several of Kelly’s associates also were issued prison sentences. The sentence likely signals an end to Kelly’s MMA career. His most recent fight came in March, when he knocked out Henrique Santana at UWC 22 in England.

Former UFC fighter Paul Kelly has been sentenced to 13 years in prison after he was convicted of running a drug ring in England. Kelly and childhood friend Christopher St. John McGirr were arrested as part of a wide spread surveillance operation. They were accused of supplying drugs to other dealers. “You were in business with Mr. McGirr supplying heroin to other dealers,” said Judge Mark Brown, according to a report by the Liverpool Echo .
