Olympic gold medalist wrestler Tamyra Mensah-Stock on potential MMA run: ‘We’ll see where God takes me’

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – While plenty of Olympians have made the transition to MMA, Tamyra Mensah-Stock isn’t on that train just yet. Mensah-Stock, who won a gold medal in wrestling at the Tokyo Olympics, was in attendance for the 2021 PFL Championship on Wednesday to support fellow Olympian Claressa Shields. Headlining the card was two-time judoka Olympian Kayla Harrison, who captured her second-straight championship with a dominant finish of Taylor Guardado .

Happy with change of scenery, ex-Bellator champ Julia Budd eyeing a 2022 PFL title

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – Julia Budd ’s PFL debut was a successful one Wednesday, and now she’s firmly focused on winning a title with the promotion in 2022. Budd (16-3) swept the judges’ scorecards for a unanimous decision win over Kaitlin Young (12-11-1) on the 2021 PFL Championship prelims. The former Bellator featherweight champion moved up to lightweight for the first time in her career, and that’s presumably the division in which she’ll compete in next year in PFL’s 2022 season. “I actually could (feel the difference in weight),” Budd told MMA Junkie after her win.

‘Happiest and saddest day of my life’: Bruno Cappelozza learns of father’s death after winning PFL title

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – Wednesday was bittersweet for Brazilian heavyweight Bruno Cappelozza . At the 2021 PFL Championship, Cappelozza (14-5) completed the goal of becoming the heavyweight champion by defeating Ante Delija (19-5) in an incredible back-and-forth battle that went the distance. However, just moments after hearing the judges scored the bout in his favor, crowning him the champion, and recipient of the $1 million prize, some heartbreaking news was revealed. During the event’s broadcast, PFL commentator Sean O’Connell announced Cappelozza’s family withheld the news of his father’s death so that he would not be distracted before his fight.
