Cage Warriors middleweight champion Nathias Frederick struggled with his footing in his first title defense at Cage Warriors 118 , but eventually planted his feet and scored a huge knockout to retain his title in London on Friday night. The event, which took place at the York Hall in the English capital, saw Frederick (9-2-1) take on Jamie Richardson in the main event, and the Birmingham native known as “Notorious” endured two frustrating rounds before finally connecting with a sledgehammer left hook that knocked Richardson (9-6) out cold seconds into Round 3. Things looked positive for the champion in the opening seconds of the fight, as Frederick dropped Richardson with his very first punch of the fight, a huge overhand right.

Cage Warriors 118 features a nine-bout card at the York Hall in Bethnal Green, with the headline bout featuring middleweight champion Nathias Frederick , who is set to put his 185-pound title on the line against Jamie Richardson . Set for action in the co-main event are welterweights Leonardo Damiani and Aaron Khalid , who both have their sights set on a title shot at 170 pounds

Cage Warriors 106 was dubbed “Night of Champions,” but it perhaps may have been more aptly-titled “Night of Drama,” as the U.K.-based MMA promotion served up a quite remarkable night of action that produced some spectacular – and unusual – results at Eventim Apollo in London. None were more unique than what we saw in the main event, when defending welterweight champion Ross Houston and interim champ Nicolas Dalby went toe-to-toe in a bloody war that ended up being ruled a no contest by referee Marc Goddard. The opening round saw Houston (8-0) connect with a slicing elbow that left Dalby (17-3-1) with a nasty gash above his left temple. But after some sterling work in the corner between rounds from the cutman, the gushing blood was stemmed, and the cut was suitably closed for the doctor to rule “Lokomotivo” fit to continue. In the second round, a huge right cross from the Dane left Houston with a broken nose that started to bleed profusely, as well. It led to remarkable scenes as the canvas of the cage was turned blood red, with both fighters struggling to get a foothold on an increasingly slippery surface. With both men bleeding heavily and the action becoming increasingly farcical as the third round unfolded, Goddard called a stop to the action and waved off the fight as a no contest

Local product Jack Shore was a man with a plan coming in against Weslley Maia . It paid off emphatically – and quickly – in the headlining bout of tonight’s Cage Warriors 97 event. Faced with a last-minute opponent in Maia (3-4), who ventured into hostile territory on less than 24 hours’ notice, Shore (9-0) was clearly not interested in taking any chances on the feet. He shot for a takedown early, insisted on it, and wouldn’t relent until he had an overwhelmed Maia lying on the bottom of his ground-and-pound.

Brian Bouland ’s neck seemed to be in a bit of trouble early in the headlining bout of tonight’s Cage Warriors 91, but it was ultimately Wales’ Josh Reed who ended up in the last place he’d want to be: under some brutal ground-and-pound. In what turned out to be a 2-0 night for Belgium against home products at Newport Center in Wales, Bouland needed less than 3 minutes to spoil the party and announce himself in scary fashion to the rest of the bantamweight division. Bouland (7-1 MMA) is now two knockout wins removed from his sole career loss, while Reed (7-2 MMA) is riding his first skid. Cage Warriors 79 results: Martin Svensson submits Scott Clist, calls for lightweight title shot

Despite an obvious grappling disadvantage, Scott Clist never hesitated to engage Martin Svensson on the ground in today’s Cage Warriors 79 main event. He paid for that choice, succumbing to a second-round submission in the UFC Fight Pass-streamed lightweight headliner at Newport Centre in Newport, Wales. Although Svensson (15-6) was the first to engage in a grappling position with a first-round takedown, it was clear Clist (9-3) had no problem being there once he was taken to the ground. There were several scrambles, with Clist passing up opportunities to escape to the feet and being forced to fend off multiple submission attempts from Svensson in order to escape the round.
