This past November, Brandon Royval (9-4) lost his opportunity to advance to the UFC by suffering a decision loss to Casey Kenney, but on Friday, he extracted some revenge against octagon veteran Joby Sanchez (12-5). The flyweight bout served as the main event of LFA 65, which aired live on AXS TV from Dobson Arena in Vail, Colo. Royval took the center to start the fight, but Sanchez stood firm in his face and returned fire. As the two exchanged strikes, neither man took firm control of the fight, but Sanchez did suffer a cut on his left temple

RFA 43 results: Brian Camozzi gets quick submission, claims welterweight belt

Even Brian Camozzi was surprised by how quickly he capitalized on his title shot. In Friday’s RFA 43 headliner, which aired on AXS TV from 1STBANK Center in Broomfield, Colo., Camozzi (7-2) claimed the organization’s vacant welterweight belt with a 100-second tap-out of Nick Barnes (11-2). After tagging his opponent with elbows early in the fight, Camozzi pushed the action against the cage. Barnes shot for a double-leg takedown, which proved to be his undoing. Camozzi slapped on a guillotine choke, squeezed tight and locked up his opponent.

Hugo Viana The main card is set for next month’s RFA 34 event, which features a welterweight title fight. As previously announced, RFA 34 takes place Jan. 15 at 1STBANK Center in Broomfield, Colo., and Benjamin Smith (15-3) and Bojan Velickovic (12-3) fight for the vacant 170-pound title in the main event. New additions to the card include a co-headliner between former RFA title challenger John Poppie (6-2), who was on a 4-0 run before his RFA 28 loss to Andrew Sanchez, and fellow middleweight Adam Stroup (10-2), a longtime Sparta Combat League fighter who had a short run on “The Ultimate Fighter 19” before an elimination-round loss to eventual show runner-up Dhiego Lima. Additionally, Coloradan light heavyweights Jeremy Kimball (11-5) and Cody Mumma (8-2) fight, and Hugo Viana (8-3), a “TUF: Brazil 1” semifinalist, fights for the first time since a 3-3 stint in the UFC when he takes on Zac Riley (3-3), who recently upset Shai Lindsey via 59-second submission on short notice.

“The Ultimate Fighter 19: Team Edgar vs. Team Penn” kicks off with a video package of several fighters explaining their desire to compete at the highest level of MMA in the UFC and become the new tournament champion. The package cuts to the “TUF” gym with a voiceover of UFC President Dana White explaining that this season consists of light heavyweight and middleweight fighter. 32 will fight to get into the house, 16 will make it and only four will make it to the end to compete for the six-figure UFC contract.
