As ONE Championship 84’s headliner wore on, it wasn’t at all clear whether Zebaztian Kadestam ’s somewhat patient approach would pay off against a gritty Tyler McGuire . However, just as it seemed like ONE Championship’s new welterweight titleholder was going to be decided in the judges’ scorecards, Kadestam (11-4) found what he’d been looking for. With about 30 seconds left in the fifth and final round, Kadestam dropped McGuire (11-1) with a massive right hand, which he followed up with a knee to secure the most notable win of his MMA career. ONE Championship 84 took place at Stadium Istora in Jakarta, Indonesia. It streamed live on the ONE Championship app, following prelims on Facebook and Twitter.

ONE Championship 80 highlights, including Joshua Pacio’s title win over Yoshitaka Naito

The second time around against Yoshitaka Naito , Joshua Pacio got the job done. Pacio (16-2) won a hard-fought, five-round unanimous decision against Naito (13-2) this past Saturday in the ONE Championship 80 main event to win the strawweight title. The victory avenged a prior title-fight loss for Pacio against Naito from nearly two years ago. The win for Pacio was his fourth straight, and given the title stakes involved, the biggest of his career.

ONE Championship was back in China this past weekend for a night of fights in multiple disciplines. “ONE Championship 76: Battle for the Heavens” featured muay Thai fights, kickboxing and MMA inside a ring. The event took place at Tianhe Gymnasium in Guangzhou, China. In the MMA headliner, flyweight Reece McLaren (12-5) picked up a split-decision against Tatsumitsu Wada (19-9) and improved to 3-0 in the promotion since dropping down to 125 pounds from bantamweight. But one of the biggest performances on the MMA side of things came from Fu Changxin (8-1), who pounded out Rustem Ensebaev for a first-round TKO. ONE Championship will return to the Philippines in April, and the promotion will unveil a new series and a bit of a new look. “ONE Championship 71: Heroes of Honor” will take place April 20 at Mall of Asia Arena in Manila, the promotion today announced. The card will stream as an online pay-per-view in North America. In the MMA main event, Kevin Belingon (17-5) will fight for his home-country fans in a bantamweight bout against Indonesia-based New York native Andrew Leone (8-3).

Today’s ONE Championship 61 main event went the distance, but the flyweight bout was spoiled in the first round by an apparent referee blunder. Facing Kairat Akhmetov (21-1), Geje Eustaquio (9-6) unloaded a flush upkick – totally legal under ONE Championship’s rules – but referee Yuji Shimada inexplicably called a timeout. Instead of awarding the knockout stoppage, the ref continued to fight, and Akhmetov rallied to pick up a narrow split-decision win. 20-year-old sensation Angela Lee added another impressive victory to her resume today when she submitted Istela Nunes to defend her women’s atomweight title in the “ONE Championship 55: Dynasty of Heroes” headliner. Lee (8-0) threw a number of submission attempts in Nunes’ direction during the online pay-per-view bout at Singapore Indoor Stadium in Singapore. It wasn’t until the second round that she found the anaconda choke to force Nunes (5-1) to tap out to give “Unstoppable” her second consecutive title defense. “The Anaconda is one of my favorite moves,” Lee said in her post-fight interview

Officials recently announced champion Vitaly Bigdash (8-0) will look for his first title defense when he meets challenger Marcin Prachnio (12-2) at ONE Championship 51. The event takes place Jan. 14 at Jakarta Convention Center in Jakarta, Indonesia, and it streams as an online pay-per-view in North America. Bigdash, a 32-year-old Russian fighter, returns to competition for the first time since October 2015, when he scored an upset win over Igor Svirid to claim the belt.
