Jeff Novitzky: ‘No credible evidence’ Islam Makhachev violated any IV rules

Dan Hooker dropped a bomb last week when he accused UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev of using an IV ahead of his title defense win over Alexander Volkanovski. The claim sparked a dialogue amongst the media and fans about what the IV rules actually are and even led to the UFC releasing a “reminder” about these rules to all UFC fighters. Now, Jeff Novitzky, Senior Vice President of Athlete Health and Performance for the UFC, has spoken out about the claims directly. “I think the Australian commission put out a statement last night saying there’s no credible evidence of him violating any of their rules,” Novitzky said in a chat with UFC commentator Brendan Fitzgerald . “I think I’ll leave it at that.” IV use isn’t outright banned as many had thought. They can be used with certain specifications

Islam Makhachev claps back at Dan Hooker for cheating claims

On Monday Dan Hooker, the teammate of Alexander Volkanovski claimed that Islam Makhachev cheated by taking an IV ahead of his win over Volkanovski. “Islam is a cheat,” Hooker posted on Twitter on Monday.

EDMONTON – An immediate rematch wouldn’t be off the table for Frankie Edgar if he’s able to take the featherweight title from Max Holloway on Saturday at UFC 240. A fight with top contender Alex Volkanovski (20-1 MMA, 7-0 UFC) in a stadium at UFC 243 is also of interest to the former lightweight champ, who makes his fourth attempt at retaking UFC gold Saturday night at Rogers Center. But when Edgar (23-6-1 MMA, 17-6-1 UFC) thinks about opportunities he’d grant, two-division champ Henry Cejudo ’s name isn’t in the mix. “I’m not thinking Henry, especially at 145, I’m definitely not thinking Henry Cejudo,” Edgar told MMA Junkie at a media day for the pay-per-view card. Cejudo (15-2 MMA, 9-2 UFC) covets a third UFC title after taking the bantamweight belt earlier this year, adding to a collection which also includes the flyweight belt. It was on social media that Volkanovski got the first inkling he might be fighting former champion Jose Aldo , and where he learned Frankie Edgar – or those around him – weren’t happy about the possibility of getting passed up.
