It’s not every day there’s an MMA draft, but Friday there was The 2025 GFL Draft took place virtually with a live stream on MMA Junkie. Six teams, each representing a major city, drafted from a pool of approximately 500 fighters, including big-name free agents and rising prospects. One-hundred-twenty athletes were be selected across 10 weight classes (heavyweight, light heavyweight, middleweight, welterweight, lightweight, featherweight, bantamweight, women’s bantamweight, women’s strawweight, and women’s atomweight).

It certainly didn’t come easy, but Felicia Spencer (6-0) kept her perfect record intact and claimed Invicta’s vacant featherweight title with a fourth-round submission win over a gritty Pam Sorenson (7-3). The bout served as the main event of Invicta FC 32, which streamed live tonight on UFC Fight Pass from FireLake Arena in Shawnee, Okla. Spencer made no attempt to hide her intentions, pressing into the clinch in the early going and pressing until she took the fight to the floor. From there, she moved quickly to the back and made fantastic adjustments to stay in the position despite being very high on her opponent’s body. Once firmly back in place, Spencer started to pound away. With a figure-four around the body, Spencer went hunting for the choke, though Sorenson showed solid defense in lasting until the bell, even if she wasn’t ever able to offer any offense in reply

LFA 17 heads to North Carolina for first lightweight title fight

LFA’s inaugural lightweight title will be on the line when the promotion’s visits North Carolina for the first time. Promotion officials recently announced that LFA 17 will take place July 21 at Grady Cole Center in Charlotte, N.C. As with all LFA events, the night’s main card airs on AXS TV. The night’s main event sees Thiago Moises (9-1), RFA’s final lightweight champion, face Robert Watley (7-1) with the LFA lightweight title on the line. “LFA will crown its first lightweight champion at LFA 17 in North Carolina,” LFA CEO Ed Soares stated.

Friday’s LFA 8 main-card opener showed us why. In an AXS TV-televised bout at TD Convention Center in Greenville, S.C., Alexa Conners (2-1) picked up a unanimous-decision victory over Calie Cutler (5-4). Although Conners entered the catchweight fight with far less experience than her opponent, it was Cutler who made a rookie mistake; in the second frame, she confused the 10-second warning for the actual end of the round
