After making a winning return to the cage at Brave CF 46, Russian flyweight contender Ali Bagautinov is targeting championship glory, and hopes to go through a fellow former UFC contender to do it. Bagautinov (19-7) returned to the sport after a 15-month hiatus and defeated Oleg Lichkovakha in the co-main event of Brave CF 46 and declared his intention to join the field for the Bahraini promotion’s upcoming flyweight tournament. Now, Brave CF officials have confirmed that Bagautinov has been signed to compete in the tournament, which also includes Jose Torres, Zach Makovsky, Dustin Ortiz and Velimurad Alkhasov. “Puncher” has already made clear who he hopes to face in the tournament as, after his win over Lichkovakha, he named Ortiz (19-8) as the man he most wants to tangle with inside the cage. “I came here to win,” he said

Brave CF 46: Returning Ali Bagautinov ‘hungry and angry’ ahead of Brave CF debut

After more than a year away from the cage, former UFC flyweight title challenger Ali Bagautinov is all set to make his return to the sport at Brave CF 46 . The event, which takes place at the WOW Arena in Sochi, Russia, represents the Bahraini promotion’s first foray into Russia, and the organization has stacked the card with Russian talent for the event, with Bagautinov’s return set to feature in the co-main event slot. Bagautinov (18-7) fell short in his bid to capture the Fight Nights Global flyweight strap in his last MMA outing in October 2019, and, during a year away from the cage, he ventured into boxing and defeated Belarusian Fighting Championship (BFC) flyweight MMA champion Andrey Kalechits via unanimous decision last November. Now “Puncher King” is all set for his return to MMA action, and will take on fellow countryman Oleg Lichkovakha in a 130-pound catchweight matchup, with the former UFC veteran keen to return with a win on his Brave CF debut. “I don’t think much of my opponent Oleg,” a confident Bagautinov admitted ahead of their matchup.

Two of the world’s best flyweights are no longer under UFC contract. Former UFC title challenger Ali Bagautinov (14-5 MMA, 4-3 UFC) and middling contender Zach Makovsky (19-8 MMA, 3-4 UFC) both completed their respective deals with the promotion with their most recent fights. Both men are no longer listed under the organization’s official rankings and are currently not being considered for new deals. A UFC official confirmed the moves to MMAjunkie on Thursday. Bagautinov, No. 6 in the latest USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie MMA flyweight rankings , is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Kyoji Horiguchi at UFC Fight Night 99 in November.
