Alyse Anderson sees more weight in being a ONE Championship title holder than an Invicta FC one. Anderson (5-1), who asked for her release from Invicta FC with one fight left on her contract, has signed with the Asian-based promotion after three fights under the Invicta FC banner. While she appreciates her time there, the 25-year-old was having a hard time getting up for a fight and wanted to take her career to the next level. “I’m not interested in going back to Invicta,” Anderson told MMA Junkie Radio. “I don’t want to hate on their promotion or anything, they’re a great promotion. But I just for me feel like I’d rather fight exclusively for ONE and just being the atomweight champion for Invicta doesn’t get me pumped up and excited

ONE Championship reveals atomweight grand prix field, with winner to challenge champ Angela Lee

ONE Championship CEO Chatri Sityodtong recently revealed the eight women who will make up the field for the promotion’s upcoming atomweight grand prix, set to kick off on May 28. The international lineup includes American Alyse Anderson (5-1), China’s Meng Bo (17-5), Thailand’s Stamp Fairtex (5-1), South Korea’s Seo Hee Ham (23-8), Japan’s Itsuki Hirata (7-0), India’s Ritu Phogat (4-0), Ukraine’s Alyona Rassohyna (13-4) and the Philippines’ Denice Zamboanga (8-0). First round matchups for the tournament are expected to be announced shortly. As Sityodtong previously announced, the winner of the grand prix will challenge reigning ONE atomweight champion Angela Lee (10-2) later this year. Lee is currently on the sidelines while she and husband Bruno Pucci welcome their first child.

Pam Sorenson used a takedown-heavy attack to outwork Kaitlin Young to become Invicta FC’s new featherweight champion Friday night. Sorenson (8-3) beat Young (10-10-1) with scores of 50-44, 49-45 and 48-45 in the five-round Invicta FC 36 main event. Sorenson won the 145-pound belt that was vacated when Felicia Spencer left for the UFC. She became Invicta’s fourth featherweight champion after Cris Cyborg, Megan Anderson and Spencer

Invicta FC will return next month, and the promotion’s featherweight title will be up for grabs. Invicta FC 36 takes place Aug. 9 at Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kan., the promotion announced Tuesday. In the headliner, Pam Sorenson (7-3) takes on Kaitlin Young (10-9-1) for the vacant 145-pound title. In addition, former strawweight title challenger Janaisa Morandin (10-2) takes on promotional newcomer Emily Ducote (7-5) in a strawweight bout in the co-main event.
