After easing their way back into action following the arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic, ONE Championship is back to hosting events at its home base of the Singapore Indoor Stadium. The promotion’s format of running large numbers of fights on a single day, then breaking them into multiple cards to be broadcast over a number of weeks, has allowed the Asian organization to get its various divisions across MMA, Muay Thai and kickboxing back up and running through 2020. Now the Singapore-based promotion is ready to welcome back more of its biggest stars in 2021, and teased some of its planned attractions in a new 2021 promo video. Topping the list of attractions in 2021 is the flyweight title battle between defending champion Adriano Moraes (18-3) and former UFC champion Demetrious Johnson (30-3-1), who are set to face off on Feb. 24, with the three-time ONE champion looking to score the biggest win of his career as he puts his title on the line against “Mighty Mouse,” who made an instant impact upon his arrival in ONE Championship by capturing the promotion’s flyweight Grand Prix title in 2019.

The featherweight fight headlined the show, which streamed live on FITE TV from Yokohama Arena in Yokohama, Japan. With the unanimous-decision win over fellow UFC vet Birchak (13-4), Kawajiri (36-11) bounces back from a submission loss to Kron Gracie in his promotional debut, which took place at Rizin FF Grand Prix 2016 this past year. Birchak, in turn, kicks off his Rizin FF career on a sour note after a recent 2-2 UFC stint. Birchak immediately proved no pushover, and he refused to stay on the mat after Kawajiri’s back-to-back takedown attempts.

Ten years after winning the PRIDE Open Weight tournament, 42-year-old Mirko Filipovic captured the Rizin FF Grand Prix Open Weight 2016 crown with two first-round knockout victories in one night and three victories in three days overall. “Cro Cop” (35-11-2) defeated Amir Aliakbari (4-1) by first-round knockout in the tournament final of Saturday’s online-streamed event at Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan, completing a run that started with a second-round TKO of Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal on Thursday. Two notable names are late additions to the upcoming continuation of the Rizin FF open-weight world grand prix. Bellator veteran Muhammed Lawal (20-5) has stepped in as a replacement for recently scratched Wanderlei Silva (35-12-1) and will fight Mirko Filipovic (32-11-2). Additionally, former UFC and PRIDE fighter Heath Herring (28-14), who hasn’t fought since 2008, has replaced Shane Carwin (12-2) and will fight Amir Aliakbari (3-0) in another quarterfinal-round matchup at the upcoming Rizin FF 3 event. Next month’s RIZIN FF card in Japan continues to grow with the addition of three women’s fights to the lineup. The promotion also announced five fighters for its open-weight tournament, which already is flanked by the likes of Croatian kickboxing legend Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic and Brazilian superstar Wanderlei Silva. Gabi Garcia (2-0) will fight Destanie Yarbrough (1-0) in a women’s heavyweight bout on the card; Kanako Murata (3-0) is set to meet Kyra Batara (5-3) at strawweight; and Rena Kubota (1-0) will fight the debuting Miyuu Yamamoto (0-0).
