Bellator returns to Belfast for the second time in less than 90 days for Friday’s Bellator 173 fight card. Like the promotion’s first foray into Ireland, Bellator 169, this event is a co-promotion with BAMMA. In the main event, former Bellator light heavyweight champion Liam McGeary looks to get back in the win column after losing his title to Phil Davis in November. Hopefully McGeary was not training for a particular opponent; the man he faces, Brett McDermott , is the third fighter to be penciled in to face McGeary since the ex-champ was booked for this event in January.

Redmond composed with takedowns and ground and pound Lobov, Garnett earn stoppage wins In a thrilling featherweight bout, 2-1 underdog Artem Lobov (10-10), nicknamed “The Prospect Killer,” was nearly pounded out by Andrew Fisher (12-7-1) in the first round. However, he rallied to even up the fight through two rounds and then score a TKO stoppage in the final second of the final round. Lobov unloaded a barrage of punches on his kneeling opponent to force the referee’s intervention. In light-heavyweight action, Karl Moore (8-4) and Lloyd Clarkson (6-6) engaged in a 15-minute slugfest that left both badly bloodied.

Lineup takes shape for ‘Cage Warriors 70: Duffy vs. Lapilus’ on Aug. 16

The lineup is nearly complete for next month’s Cage Warriors 70 event, which streams live on MMAjunkie. The event takes place Aug. 16 at The Helix in Dublin, a city that recently hosted the successful UFC Fight Night 46 event. Headlining the event is Irish lightweight Joseph Duffy (10-1), who owns a previous win over fast-rising UFC featherweight contender Conor McGregor (watch it below). After taking some off from MMA for a 7-0 pro-boxing run, he returns to the MMA cage for the first time since 2011 when he meets Damien Lapilus (9-3-1), a Frenchman who makes his Cage Warriors debut after a recent 4-0-1 run.
