Former UFC strawweight Angela Magana vows to make a full recovery and return to fighting after a serious health scare. In an emotional video, a tearful Magana thanked her fans and promoter Combate Americas for their support and said she feels like “a very rich woman because I have a lot of time.” “I’m going to get better, and I’ll be fighting again soon,” Magana said in a video posted to YouTube . “Nothing will stop me, man.” Magana, 35, fell into a coma following complications from a back surgery that ruled her out of a fight against Kyra Batara at “Combate 35: Reinas.” In the buildup to the April 26 fight, Magana had dealt with severe back pain that was later revealed to be a herniated disc. When she didn’t respond to treatment, she was diagnosed with cauda equina syndrome, requiring her to undergo emergency surgery. According to her longtime coach, Gabriel Lamastus, complications arose from anesthesia during the surgery

The event takes place at Nippon Gaishi Hall in Nagoya and streams live via online pay-per-view at Fite.tv at 2 a.m. ET/11 p.m. PT. Magana went 0-3 during her official UFC tenure, including a December 2017 loss to Amanda Cooper at UFC 218. Angela Magana (11-9 MMA, 0-3 UFC), who is coming off a second-round TKO loss to Amanda Cooper (3-3 MMA, 2-2 UFC) at UFC 218 last weekend, announced today on social media that she’s been informed of her release from the UFC following a three-fight stint (via Twitter ): I immediately asked for a rematch with #ufc and they have released me after dropping 3 losses in a row.
