ONE Championship officials today announced that Yoshihiro Akiyama (14-6) will return from more than three years away from competition to face Agilan Thani (8-3) in the featured MMA contest at next month’s “ONE Championship 97: Legendary Quest,” which takes place June 15 at Baoshan Arena in Shanghai. As with all ONE Championship events, the event’s main card streams in the U.S. on B/R Live following prelims on ONE Championship’s Twitter and Facebook accounts. As ONE Championship 84’s headliner wore on, it wasn’t at all clear whether Zebaztian Kadestam ’s somewhat patient approach would pay off against a gritty Tyler McGuire . However, just as it seemed like ONE Championship’s new welterweight titleholder was going to be decided in the judges’ scorecards, Kadestam (11-4) found what he’d been looking for. With about 30 seconds left in the fifth and final round, Kadestam dropped McGuire (11-1) with a massive right hand, which he followed up with a knee to secure the most notable win of his MMA career. ONE Championship 84 took place at Stadium Istora in Jakarta, Indonesia. It streamed live on the ONE Championship app, following prelims on Facebook and Twitter.

Promotion officials recently announced that Sweden’s Zebaztian Kadestam (10-4) will face undefeated American prospect Tyler McGuire (11-0) for the vacant title in the main event of ONE Championship 84, which takes place Nov. 17 at Stadium Istora in Jakarta, Indonesia. ONE Championship 70 results: Bibiano Fernandes stops Martin Nguyen from history with 7th title defense

Bibiano Fernandes continued to be the most successful titleholder in ONE Championship history when he defended his belt yet again in today’s ONE Championship 70 headliner. Fernandes (22-3) recorded his seventh consecutive bantamweight title defense when he walked away with a split decision against featherweight and lightweight champ Martin Nguyen (10-2) in the headlining bout at Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand. Nguyen came into the fight looking to make MMA history as the first simultaneous three-division champion in a major organization. Fernandes had other plans, though, and extended his winning streak to 14 fights dating back to December 2010.

Lineup set for ONE Championship 68 with Martin Nguyen vs. Bibiano Fernandes headliner

The lineup is set for ONE Championship’s return to Thailand later this month, where Martin Nguyen will try to make history. Nguyen (10-1), ONE Championship’s featherweight and lightweight championship, will go after a third concurrent title when he meets bantamweight champion Bibiano Fernandes (21-3) in the main event. Officials also have announced the rest of the card for “ONE Championship 68: Iron Will,” takes place March 24 at Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand. It streams as an online pay-per-view in North America following prelims on Facebook. In the co-main event, Richard Corminal (4-3) takes on Garry Tonon (0-0) in a lightweight bout.
