Antonio McKee believes his son A.J. McKee is the best in the world and hopes a day will come where fighters can prove it by crossing promotional lines to unify titles. At Bellator 263, A.J. made quick work of former champ-champ Patricio Freire by securing a first-round submission win via guillotine choke after rocking him with strikes along the fence. The win crowned McKee the winner of the featherweight grand prix in addition to becoming the division’s champion.

LOS ANGELES – MMA Junkie was on scene and reporting live from Friday’s official Bellator 228 weigh-ins, where all main card fighters hit their respective marks. The early weigh-ins took place at the host hotel and preceded the ceremonial weigh-ins for the fans , which take place at 3 p.m. ET at the same venue. Among those who made weight were featherweight champion Patricio Freire (29-4 MMA, 17-4 BMMA) and Juan Archuleta (23-1 MMA, 5-0 BMMA), who fight for Freire’s title in a bout that also closes out the first round of Bellator’s 145-pound tournament.
