Mansour Barnaoui vs. Archie Colgan headlines PFL Europe in Paris in May

A pair of lightweights will be atop the card when the PFL sets up shop in the “City of Lights” this spring. Paris’ own Mansour Barnaoui (22-6) will take on unbeaten Archie Colgan (11-0) at Accor Arena on May 24, the PFL announced Thursday. In addition, Belgian lightweight fighters Patrick Habirora (6-0) and Nicolas Di Franco (10-4) will meet, and French fighter Taylor Lapilus will make his promotional debut on the card. Barnaoui has 21 of his 22 wins by stoppage, including 15 submissions, and he’s never been finished in his six losses. Colgan, a former NCAA Division-I wrestling standout who trains with Justin Gaethje and Kamaru Usman, among others, will put his unbeaten record on the line. “I have a huge opportunity at the Accor Arena to make a statement and finish an undefeated fighter,” Barnaoui said in a news release

The official weigh-ins for Bellator Champions Series: Paris are in the books, and all but one fighter hit their marks. In the main event, Patchy Mix (19-1) defends his bantamweight title in a rematch against Magomed Magomedov (20-3). Both fighters made championship weight at 135 pounds.

That Archie Colgan still is unbeaten reasonably early in his career is not that rare. But lately, the heat has been turned up a bit, and the results have been mostly the same. Well, the part that’s been the same – the most important part – has been the wins at the end. But the most recent two have taken a little more work. Colgan (9-0 MMA, 6-0 BMMA) had six finishes in his first seven fights, including stoppages in his first four Bellator wins. But this past year, the level of opponent was stepped up for him big time and he took a pair of decisions from former featherweight title challenger Emmanuel Sanchez and Pieter Buist.

CHICAGO – Archie Colgan knew what he was getting himself into Friday at Bellator 297 , but somehow, he was still surprised. For the first time as a professional MMA fighter, Colgan (8-0 MMA, 5-0 BMMA) needed all 15 minutes to pick up a victory, when he defeated former featherweight title challenger Emmanuel Sanchez (20-9 MMA, 12-8 BMMA) via unanimous decision in a lightweight bout. The decision win marked the end of his career-long finishing streak. While Colgan believed in his opponent’s reputation as a tough out, Sanchez’s stalwartness and durability was even above expectations.

Coming into 2023 on a six-fight winning streak to start his career, lightweight Archie Colgan was able to keep his momentum going with a win over Justin Montalvo at Bellator 293 this past March. Having not gone to a decision in a year, Colgan’s first round TKO of Montalvo was his sixth in his seven wins, but as always he keeps an eye on the things that didn’t go as he wanted to help improve himself for his next fight.
