Dana White Wouldn’t Mind Putting Vitor Belfort vs. Lyoto Machida in UFC 167 Co-Main Event

Vitor Belfort wants to fight for the UFC middleweight championship. Lyoto Machida wants a rematch with Phil Davis. Neither is going to get the fight that they want, but they may just get a fight against each other. UFC president Dana White wouldn’t mind putting the two in a fight together, especially if it were at 185 pounds, according to a report on UFC Tonight on Tuesday. In fact, White told UFC Tonight reporter Ariel Helwani that he would make the fight the co-main event of UFC 167: St-Pierre vs. Hendricks , the promotion’s 20th Anniversary event. UFC 167 takes place on Nov. 16 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Jorge Masvidal vs. Rustam Khabilov set for November UFC on FOX Sports 1 card

That didn’t take long. Jorge Masvidal moved to 2-0 in the UFC on Saturday, and he’s already got his next assignment. Masvidal (25-7 MMA, 2-0 UFC) has been booked for a lightweight fight against Rustam Khabilov (16-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC). FUEL TV’s “UFC Tonight” correspondent Ariel Helwani reported the news as part of Tuesday night’s episode. The fight reportedly will take place in November on a yet-to-be-announced FOX Sports 1 card. Masvidal this past Saturday submitted Michael Chiesa in the second round at UFC on FOX 8, which took place at KeyArena in Seattle. Despite a rough first round in which Masvidal was dropped by a Chiesa left hand, he went on to hand Chiesa his first career loss with a guillotine D’Arce choke. Masvidal, a former lightweight title challenger in Strikeforce, now has won three straight since his loss to Gilbert Melendez for that belt in December 2011.

With UFC 166 win, Daniel Cormier to stump for immediate light-heavyweight title

If Daniel Cormier (12-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) defeats fellow heavyweight Roy Nelson (19-8 MMA, 6-4 UFC) in UFC 166′s co-main event, he’s planning to ask for a title shot at light heavyweight. Cormier, who confirmed the plans with FUEL TV’s Ariel Helwani on “UFC Tonight,” will ask to “cut the line” to get an immediate shot at the 205-pound belt. UFC 166, which takes place Oct. 19 at Houston’s Toyota Center, marks Cormier’s final fight at heavyweight, a division in which he won a Strikeforce world grand prix before topping ex-champ Frank Mir in his UFC debut earlier this year. Cormier has long discussed his planned move down to light heavyweight, and he started a gradual weight cut even before the bout with Mir, which marked the two-time Olympian’s 12th consecutive MMA win. Kamal Shalorus established himself as an immediate contender for Shinya Aoki’s ONE FC lightweight belt with a decision win over Eduard Folayang last month and the Iranian wasted no time in calling out the reigning 155-pound champion. “I would love to fight with Shinya Aoki and honestly I think it’s a good match-up because he’s a grappler, but I’m a wrestler, he cannot take me down and I can strike with him. I competed 16 minutes with Saulo Ribeiro and he couldn’t submit me, so Aoki’s not going to do anything to me. That’s a very good match-up for me; Eduard Folayang is a harder fight for me than Aoki.” It’s fighting talk from a man who finds himself back in Asia fighting for ONE FC, after a career that had been spent competing exclusively in his adopted home of America. UFC’s Hector Lombard officially headed to welterweight, wants Nate Marquardt

After his much-anticipated arrival in the UFC middleweight division provided mixed results, Hector Lombard is officially dropping a weight class. Lombard (32-4-1 MMA, 1-2 UFC) today confirmed the move to welterweight via Twitter . Additionally, FUEL TV’s “UFC Tonight” confirmed the move on Tuesday, with reporter Ariel Helwani reporting Lombard is interested in a fight with Nate Marquardt (32-12-2 MMA, 10-5 UFC). UFC officials haven’t confirmed a date or an opponent for the former Bellator champion’s next bout. Lombard, who’s ranked No. 12 in the USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie.com MMA middleweight rankings , joined the UFC in 2012 on the strength of a 25-fight unbeaten streak (24-0-1). The run saw the Olympic judoka win Bellator’s inaugural middleweight tournament and make a lone title defense over Alexander Shlemenko . The show will headline a pay-per-view on Nov. 16, likely UFC 167. MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) previously reported the likely date, and UFC officials confirmed it with Ariel Helwani on Tuesday’s edition of “UFC Tonight” on FUEL TV. Ricardo Lamas Pulled from UFC 162 Fight Card, Tim Boetsch vs. Mark Munoz Moves to PPV

First Ricardo Lamas lost his UFC 162 fight against Chan Sung Jung, and now he’s been removed from the fight card altogether. UFC Tonight reported Lamas’ removal from the fight card on Tuesday night. With the loss of the bout, the UFC has moved the middleweight showdown between Tim Boetsch and Mark Munoz up to the pay-per-view main card. The Lamas vs. Jung bout was pulled apart when Anthony Pettis injured his meniscus and had to withdraw from his UFC 163 challenge of featherweight champion Jose Aldo. Both Lamas and Jung were considered deserving contenders, but UFC officials offered the Aldo bout to Jung, who admittedly felt bad for his former opponent. Jung told UFC Tonight ’s Ariel Helwani that he felt Lamas probably should have gotten the shot first, but that he couldn’t pass up the opportunity presented him. Lamas will still get paid his show money for the fight, even though he is now without a bout and would like to face the winner of Aldo and Jung.

Ricardo Lamas will not remain on next month’s UFC 162 card, and instead a preliminary-card fight between Tim Boetsch and Mark Munoz will be promoted to the main card. That fight had been set as the featured prelim on FX. The announcement was part of Tuesday night’s edition of “UFC Tonight” on FUEL TV, with correspondnet Ariel Helwani getting word from UFC officials. UFC 162 takes place July 6 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The show is headlined by a middleweight title fight between champion Anderson Silva and top contender Chris Weidman . The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FX and Facebook.
