CageSport Champion Anthony Hamilton Ready to Stand Throw Down with Anyone

Following back-to-back wins to close out 2012, CageSport heavyweight champion Anthony Hamilton started off this year with his third win in a row by getting a 90-second arm bar submission of Will Courchaine at Rumble on the Ridge 27 in March. “I’ve been trying to stay more active, but that’s been tougher as I’ve moved up the ranks, so it was good to start 2013 with a win,” said Hamilton. “(The fight) didn’t last too long, so I didn’t take any injuries, and it’s always good to get in and out of there in a good fashion, so I was pretty happy about it.” The fight not only raised Hamilton’s winning streak to three in a row, it was also his third straight fight finishing a bout in less than two minutes. When asked if he feels he can gauge where he’s at with such quick performances or if he has to do that during training, Hamilton replied, “I train a lot down at Jackson’s in New Mexico, so it’s always a good gauge to see where you’re at training with guys like Jon Jones, Travis Browne, Frank Mir and guys like that.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship released the attendance and gate figures for Saturday’s UFC on Fox 8: Johnson vs. Moraga event in Seattle at the post fight press conference. 7,816 spectators went to KeyArena to witness the 12-fight card, resulting in $735,000 in gate revenue. Demetrius Johnson defended his UFC flyweight title by submitting challenger John Moraga in the final round of the main event. Johnson’s speed and ability to get the fight to the ground kept Moraga neutralized throughout the championship bout. In the final round, Johnson secured a takedown and applied an arm bar that forced Moraga to tap out or suffer injury. Rory MacDonald proved his top-three welterweight ranking by defeating Jake Ellenberger by a clear unanimous decision in the co-main event. The night of fights also featured Robbie Lawler adding another highlight reel knockout to his career highlights with a knockout of Bobby Voelker and Liz Carmouche becoming the first female fighter to log two fights in the UFC with her technical knockout win over Germain de Randamie. Former Invicta FC atomweight champion Jessica Penne wants a rematch with Michelle Waterson , but Invicta FC has other plans. “I think I’m ready for a rematch,” said Penne following her Invicta FC 6 submission win over Nicdali Rivera-Calanoc on Saturday. Penne became the first ever champion in Invicta FC history when she defeated Naho Sugiyama at Invicta FC 3 in October 2012. Waterson defeated Penne in her first title defense by arm bar to capture the Invicta FC atomweight title at Invicta FC 5 on April 5. Invicta FC president Shannon Knapp believes Penne is deserving of another title shot, but will not make the rematch out of respect for Waterson as a champion. “I always look at it this way. I feel like when someone becomes champion that respectfully you should give them a fight before they face that opponent again. That’s just my thoughts on it,” said Knapp during the Invicta FC 6 post-fight press conference.
