Ashkan Mokhtarian was ruled out of his flyweight bout at UFC Fight Night 142 earlier this week. Now we know why. Mokhtarian (13-3 MMA, 0-2 UFC) was set to take on promotional newcomer Kai Kara-France (17-7 MMA, 0-0 UFC) at the UFC’s return to Australia next week, but a UFC official Wednesday told MMAjunkie Mokhtarian had been forced out. Today, Mokhtarian said concussion-like symptoms following a couple weeks of lingering headaches forced a doctor to rule him out of the fight. UFC Fight Night 142 takes place Sunday, Dec. 2, at Adelaide Entertainment Centre in Australia

Report: UFC Fight Night 132 heads to Singapore, includes Kassem-Xiaonan, Lausa-Mokhtarian

It appears the UFC will head to Singapore this summer for the second straight year, and third time overall. UFC Fight Night 132, though not yet announced by the promotion, will take place in Singapore according to a report from Combate journalist Raphael Marinho on Twitter . The card will take place June 23, though a venue and specific broadcast deatils were not reported. It is likely the event will stream in full on UFC Fight Pass, which was the case for the promotion’s first two events there: UFC Fight Night 34 in January 2014 and UFC Fight Night 111 in June 2017.

Ryan Benoit may have scored a spectacular knockout victory at UFC Fight Night 121, but he didn’t leave the octagon without some battle wounds. Benoit (10-5 MMA, 3-3 UFC) delivered a highlight reel knockout in Saturday’s featured preliminary bout when he starched Ashkan Mokhtarian (13-3 MMA, 0-2 UFC) with a third-round head kick in their flyweight bout, which took place at Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney and aired on FS1 following early prelims on UFC Fight Pass. It was a frustrating outing for Benoit, who for the overwhelming majority of the nearly 13-minute fight was forced to chase Mokhtarian around the octagon. Mokhtarian was using a movement-heavy style of fighting, but eventually Benoit tagged him with a kick and put the lights out. Although it was a sensational win, Benoit was unable to speak to the media afterward because of damage sustained to his hand early in the fight. He provided an update from the hospital, though, and evidently it wasn’t just his hand that was worse for war.
