T.J. Dillashaw (8-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC) has been booked for a bout against Raphael Assuncao (20-4 MMA, 4-1 UFC) when the UFC returns to Belo Horizonte for UFC on FOX Sports 1 3. Globo first reported the news, though UFC officials have yet to make a formal announcement. UFC on FOX Sports 1 3 takes place Sept. 4 at Estadio Jornalista Felipe Drumond in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. It will be the UFC’s second visit to the city after first visiting for UFC 147 in 2012. Dillashaw joins teammate Joseph Benavidez , who fights Jussier Formiga at flyweight, as Team Alpha Male fighters on the card in Brazil.

Sources close to the promotion on Monday confirmed the featherweight’s signing, which is expected to be made official soon. Brazilian outlet Ataque Total first reported the news. Nunes was released from the UFC this past winter following a unanimous decision loss to Nik Lentz at UFC on FX 7 in Brazil. That loss gave him two decision setbacks in three fights. Overall, Nunes, from Brazil, went 3-3 in his stint with the UFC, but his most recent win streak came in 2010-11, when he had a three-fight run with victories over Raphael Assuncao and Tyler Toner in the WEC and a split-decision win over Mike Brown in his UFC debut..

After a first round controlled almost entirely by Assuncao on the mat, the Brazilian turned up the heat in the second frame and locked up an armbar to force the tap at 1:51 of Round 2. The bantamweight bout closed out the preliminary card of today’s UFC on FUEL TV 10 event at Paulo Sarasate Arena in Fortaleza, Ceara, Brazil. It streamed on Facebook ahead of a main card on FUEL TV. Early on it was clear that Assuncao had the advantage on the mat, as Lee seemed fortunate to survive the opening round after getting mounted early on. When he was unable to stop Assuncao’s takedown to start the second, things only got worse. “I was training specifically to be able to fight Vaughan Lee because he’s a very good striker, and my strategy worked,” Assuncao said via an interpreter after the victory.
