Interim bantamweight champion Renan Barao scored a spectacular stoppage win over Eddie Wineland at UFC 165 at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto with a spinning back kick in the second round that stunned the challenger and was swiftly followed up with a fight finishing flurry of punches. It was an eye-catching performance from the Brazilian, who had bided his time in the opening round, scoring with a series of low kicks to the inside left leg of Wineland and seeing a couple of takedown attempts easily shrugged off.

LAS VEGAS – Anderson Silva bobbed, weaved and clowned his way to the first loss of his UFC career. The now-former UFC middleweight champion showed little respect to opponent Chris Weidman, who entered Saturday’s UFC 162 pay-per-view headliner as one of the smallest underdogs of Silva’s long title reign. As a result, MMA’s pound-for-pound kingpin and arguably the greatest fighter in the sport’s history gave away the fight as much as Weidman won it. In front of a stunned crowd at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena, Silva (33-5 MMA, 16-1 UFC) dropped his hands, dared Weidman (10-0 MMA, 6-0 UFC) to take a swing, and laughed off the challenger’s attempts. That was all well and good through the first round, when Silva escaped from an early takedown and heel-hook attempt to get back to his feet and deliver some late-round leg kicks. But like the first round, Silva continued clowning in the second round

UFC 162 results/photos: Dominant striking gets Tim Kennedy past Roger Gracie

LAS VEGAS – Tim Kennedy not only was willing to grapple with Roger Gracie, he took the jiu-jitsu ace to the ground. Although Kennedy struggled to find the 6-foot-4 Gracie’s chin, he controlled the fight to shut out the Brazilian on two of three judges’ scorecards. The middleweight bout of Strikeforce vets was part of the main card of today’s UFC 162 event at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. It aired on pay-per-view following prelims on FX and Facebook. Things looked good for Gracie early in the first round when he took Kennedy down and transitioned to back mount. For a few tense moments, Kennedy suffered through a body triangle and fought off choke attempts. But he eventually escaped to his feet, where he snuck strikes in close. In the second frame, Kennedy turned the tables on Gracie and took the fight to the mat, where he landed several punches that shifted the fight’s momentum.

UFC 161 results/photos: Stipe Miocic outstrikes Roy Nelson for one-sided victory

WINNIPEG – Stepping in to face Stipe Miocic on just three-weeks’ notice proved to be too much of a challenge for Roy Nelson, who saw a three-fight win streak snapped in a unanimous-decision loss. The heavyweight bout co-headlined today’s UFC 161 event at MTS Centre in Winnipeg. It aired on pay-per-view after prelims on FX and Facebook. Nelson, who stepped in on short notice to face Miocic to add star power to a card that lost its original main event, was never really in the fight. Miocic steered clear of the big right hand in the early going while looking for a few quick takedown attempts. Meanwhile, Nelson shucked off the moves and looked to deliver his trademark power punches. It was Miocic’s speed that proved the difference in the first, as he largely avoided taking any punches from “Big Country” while slipping and delivering countershots in bunches. Nelson appeared to tire as the round wore on, taking a few looks up at the clock

Erick Silva vs. Jason High full fight video highlights

FORTALEZA, BRAZIL – On a night with eight submissions, Erick Silva ‘s was deemed the best – netting him an extra $50,000 in bonus money for “Submission of the Night.” Silva stopped Jason High with a first-round armbar to get back in the win column after a loss to Jon Fitch this past October, and he looked impressive in doing so. The welterweights met on the FUEL TV-televised main card of Saturday’s UFC on FUEL TV 10 event at Paulo Sarasate Arena in Fortaleza, Ceara, Brazil. High (16-4 MMA, 0-2 UFC) tried to take Silva (15-3 MMA, 3-2 UFC) down early, but Silva stuffed the attempt and a subsequent scramble on the ground found Silva on High’s back. When a couple choke attempts weren’t quite there, he slid off and took High’s arm, forcing him to tap to an armbar at the 1:11 mark of the first round. Check out the highlights above
