Igor Svirid (10-1) captured the inaugural ONE FC middleweight championship by knocking out Leandro Ataides (8-1) in a mere 17 seconds in today’s ONE FC 22 headliner. The Kazakhstani fighter walked through his opponent with little difficulty as his first jab of the contest put Ataides on his back. He briefly survived and returned to his feet, but Svirid quickly jumped on his wobbled foe and threw a series of punches that rendered him unconscious. Svirid handed the previously unbeaten fighter his first loss, which came at Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore. After falling short in his MMA debut in April 2011, Svirid has put together a 10-fight winning streak. However, no victory during that stretch was as meaningful as his title-winning effort against Ataides

‘ONE FC 23: Battle of Lions’ takes shape with inaugural middleweight title fight

ONE FC’s inaugural middleweight title will be on the line in November. A title bout between Leandro Ataides (7-0) and Igor Svirid (9-1) will headline “ONE FC 23: Battle of Lions,” promotion officials on Monday announced. In addition, the card will feature welterweights Bakhtiyar Abbasov (12-3) vs. Luis Santos (60-9-1); Dwayne Hinds (9-0) vs. Warren de Reuck (6-0) at welterweight; and Tatsuya Mizuno (12-10) vs. Aung La N Sang (16-9) in a middleweight matchup. ONE FC 23 takes place Nov.

Despite a brief scare in the opening seconds of the fight, Ben Askren (13-0) kept his undefeated record intact with a first-round submission of Bakhtiyar Abbasov (11-3) in today’s ONE FC 16 headliner at Singapore Indoor Arena. In the bout, which streamed in North America as an online pay-per-view, Abbasov surprised Askren when he shot for a takedown in the first 10 seconds of the contest. While that’s an impressive feat in itself, the move ultimately led to his demise. Askren, an Olympian and former Bellator MMA welterweight champion, quickly reversed position and began to tee off with a ground-and-pound attack. While Abbasov absorbed a commendable amount of damage, he eventually succumbed to the pressure and submitted to the arm-triangle choke at the 4:21 mark of Round 1. Askren was expected to challenge for the ONE FC welterweight title in his promotional debut, but the fight failed to come to fruition

Ben Askren headlines May’s ONE FC 15 vs. Bakhtiyar Abbasov

Former Bellator MMA welterweight champion Ben Askren will make his highly anticipated ONE FC debut next month in Singapore. Askren (12-0) will headline “ONE FC 15: Honor & Glory” against Bakhtiyar Abbasov (11-2), promotion officials have announced. ONE FC 15 will take place May 30 at Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore. The main card will stream via an online pay-per-view. Also on tap for the card is a lightweight bout between Caros Fodor (8-4) and Willy Ni (15-8), plus light heavyweights Jake Butler (3-1) vs. Pane Haraki (3-2).
