Bellator Reportedly Ready to Let Welterweight Champion Ben Askren Leave for UFC

It appears that Bellator MMA is ready to let welterweight champion Ben Askren walk away. At least that’s the word that company CEO Bjorn Rebney passed along to ESPN.com on Thursday. Having fought under the Bellator banner since Season 2 in 2010, Askren’s current contract was fulfilled with his most recent title defense. The welterweight champion crushed Andrey Koreshkov at Bellator 97 on July 31, but it evidently wasn’t enough to keep the interest of his bosses.

Rinaldi (6-1) nearly had his path to the UFC set in 2012 when he selected for “The Ultimate Fighter 15,” where his was an elimination-round win away from earning a spot on the cast. Unfortunately, Joe Proctor quickly submitted him and, and Rinaldi never had the chance to truly showcase his talents.

Once upon a time, Joe Riggs (39-14 MMA, 0-1 BFC) was MMA’s version of a cautionary tale. But now, as a cast member of Bellator MMA’s new reality show “Fight Master,” the 30-year-old Riggs said he’s primed for a second run to prominence. “My ass kicking has just begun in my career,” Riggs recently told MMAjunkie.com Radio (www.mmajunkie.com/radio). “I’m hitting my second stride.” Riggs already boasts nearly 11 years of professional MMA experience, but he’s best known for an eight-fight UFC run followed by seven appearances under the Strikeforce banner.

XFC 25 heads to Albuquerque for Eggink vs. Magana strawweight title fight

Xtreme Fighting Championship will head to Albuquerque, N.M., in September and its women’s strawweight title will be on the line. XFC 25 takes place Sept. 6 at Albuquerque Convention Center and features a main event between Stephanie Eggink (3-1) and Angela Magana (11-5) for the promotion’s first 115-pound championship. In the co-main event, Dhiego Lima (8-1) takes on Ricky Rainey (8-1) at welterweight. XFC officials recently announced the card, which will be its first visit to the New Mexico city – and first card west of the Mississippi River. Eggink has won back-to-back unanimous decisions under the XFC banner

That could make it a long night for opponent James Krause . Stout (20-8-1 MMA, 8-7 UFC), a veteran lightweight who competes for the 16th time under the UFC banner, meets injury replacement and promotional newcomer Krause (19-4 MMA, 0-0 UFC) at UFC 161, which takes place at MTS Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Their bout, which is part of the FX-televised preliminary card, pits a UFC newbie against a fighter who entered the octagon for the first time way back in 2006. “I can’t count on him having the first-fight jitters, but I’ve experienced it before,” Stout today told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com).
