The latest installment of “Bellator: Uncut” offers a behind-the-scenes and emotional look at Daniel Straus from this past weekend’s Bellator 112 event, where he lost his featherweight title to Pat Curran. Despite being part of one of the year’s early “Fight of the Year” contenders, Straus (22-5 MMA, 8-2 BMMA) suffered both a tough weight cut – one that forced him to chop off his dreadlocks – as well as a crushing title loss to Curran (20-5 MMA, 10-2 BMMA) in the final minute of the March 14 fight. Ex-Bellator champ Daniel Straus on missed weight, cutting dreadlocks, Curran

The buildup to the first defense of Daniel Straus ’ Bellator featherweight title was something foreign to him. The result, on Thursday afternoon in Hammond, Ind., was a brutal weight cut that culminated in him cutting off his dreadlocks – perhaps the closest thing Straus (22-5 MMA, 8-2 BMMA) has to a trademark – just to try to become official for his title fight against Pat Curran (20-5 MMA, 10-2 BMMA). Ultimately, on Friday, he lost his title to Curran when he had to tap out with just 14 seconds left in the fight at Bellator 112. The challenger recaptured the title that Straus took from him four months prior as the Curran-friendly Horseshoe Hammond Casino venue not far from his home in Chicago’s north suburbs went the proverbial bananas. The fight was so good that even Straus couldn’t help but pop to his feet after Curran’s fight-ending rear-naked choke to help the new champ celebrate.

Just how pivotal was Pat Curran ‘s late-fight submission in tonight’s Bellator 112 championship headliner? According to the scorecards, it could have been a factor. Through four rounds of the Spike TV-televised fight, which saw Curran (20-5 MMA, 10-2 BMMA) submit Daniel Straus (22-5 MMA, 9-2 BMMA) to reclaim the featherweight title, the fight was tied. Bellator 112′s Sam Oropeza uses parents as inspiration in fighting career

Sam Oropeza is working on a deadline, and it’s starting to come due. The Pennsylvania-based fighter tonight officially goes after it in the opening round of Bellator MMA’s Season 10 welterweight tournament, and it’s possible he could make his plan even earlier than expected. “I set a goal back in 2010 to be a world champion by 2014 or 2015,” Oropeza told MMAjunkie.
