The latest installment of “Bellator: Uncut” offers a behind-the-scenes look at this past weekend’s Bellator 113, where Emanuel Newton unified the light heavyweight title with a win over champion Attila Vegh in the main event. In addition, the lightweight tournament got underway at Kansas Star Arena in Mulvane, Kan., with three stunning finishes – including the decimation of hometown hero David Rickels by Patricky Freire. After tangling with a pro boxer as a 17-year-old, Bellator MMA lightweight Tim Welch learned some valuable firsthand information: Body shots hurt like hell. So when the 23-year-old Montana native made his pro MMA debut a few years later, he remembered that lesson and incorporated the knowledge into his training. “Being a young kid and getting beat up by a pro boxer at age 17 helped me,” he said. “He’d drop me to the body over and over and just generally lay a good beating on me.

Youngster Marcin Held is three wins away from an elusive Bellator MMA tournament title – and a new life in the U.S. Held (16-3 MMA, 5-2 BMMA), a submission specialist who’s tapped out eight opponents in 16 career wins, meets promotional newcomer Rodrigo Cavalheiro (14-2 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) on Friday at Bellator 113. Their bout, which takes place at Kansas Star Arena in Mulvane, Kan., airs on the Spike TV main card. It’s one of four opening-round matchups for the Season 10 lightweight tournament, and the winner gets a shot at the title, which Eddie Alvarez currently holds. Held has gotten close before

As Patricky Freire prepares to enter his third Bellator MMA tournament, the Brazilian is considering a potential full-time move to the U.S. “Pitbull” said things back home are a big reason why. Since joining Bellator in 2011, the 28-year-old slugger has made many numerous trips up north. The latest is for Friday’s Bellator 113 event, where Freire (11-5 MMA, 4-4 BMMA) takes on David Rickels (15-3 MMA, 9-2 BMMA) in the first round of the Season 10 lightweight tournament. The bout, which also serves as the Spike TV co-headliner, takes place at Kansas Star Arena in Mulvane, Kan.

Serious about training – on 10-fight streak – Rodrigo Cavalheiro set for Bellator debut

Rodrigo Cavalheiro is a late bloomer, and he knows it. But if things go as planned for him on Friday, you’ll know exactly who he is. Cavalheiro didn’t get his MMA start until he was 25, and started training seriously at 27. Now 31, and riding a 10-fight winning streak, Cavalheiro will make his Bellator MMA debut on Friday in the promotion’s Season 10 lightweight tournament. To get there, he won four fights in 2012 and six in 2013 – with nine of the 10 wins coming by knockout. Cavalheiro (14-2 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) now will try to bestow the same fate on Marcin Held (16-3 MMA, 6-2 BMMA) at Bellator 113, which takes place at Kansas Star Arena in Mulvane, Kan.
