It appears that Bellator MMA is looking at its heavyweight tilt tonight between Eric Prindle (8-5 MMA, 3-4 BMMA) and James Thompson (19-14 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) as one of those fun ones. The two heavyweights meet at Bellator 121 tonight at WinStar World Casino in Thackerville, Okla. An early fight against current pound-for-pound kingpin Jon Jones may be Carlos Eduardo ‘s most famous moment up to now. The Brazilian light heavyweight fought Jones in 2008 and suffered a third-round knockout loss. It was Jones’ second fight, and less than a year later he was tearing up the UFC on his way to the 205-pound title. Tonight, Eduardo (11-3 MMA, 1-1 BMMA) would love to start turning that distinction around when he meets Egidijus Valavicius (26-10 MMA, 1-0 BMMA) at Bellator 121, looking to start a new winning streak after having a nine-fight run snapped in April. Bellator 121 takes place tonight at WinStar World Casino in Thackerville, Okla.

The man who pulled off stunning knockouts of Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and Ricardo Arona in 2007 under the PRIDE banner has seemed a shell of that fighter’s potential against big-name opposition since then. But after back-to-back knockout losses in 2013, Sokoudjou (14-12 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) has signed with Bellator MMA and believes this is his time to show the world he’s still a force to be reckoned with, as he told MMAjunkie earlier this week . Tonight, he makes his promotional debut at Bellator 121, which takes place at WinStar World Casino in Thackerville, Okla. He’ll meet Terry Davinney (10-7 MMA, 1-0 BMMA) in a light heavyweight bout on the main card, which airs on Spike TV following prelims on Spike.com.

Sokoudjou, Tom DeBlass among recent Bellator long-term roster additions

Bellator MMA continues to bolster its roster, which now has in excess of 180 fighters, and this past week it added several more key names to the promotion’s lineup. Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou (14-12 MMA, 0-0 BMMA), Tom DeBlass (9-2 MMA, 2-0 BMMA), Malik Merad (19-11 MMA, 0-0 BMMA), Dmitriy Sosnovskiy (8-0 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) and Steve Garcia (3-0 MMA, 1-0 BMMA) have signed deals with the company, Bellator announced. Sokoudjou will make his promotional debut next month at Bellator 121, the first event of its 2014 “Summer Series,” against Terry Davinney (10-6 MMA, 1-0 BMMA). A select few fighters in MMA history can claim one-name recognition, but Sokoudjou is one of those fighters. “The African Assassin” has fought all over the world, and has fought for the UFC, WEC, PRIDE, Strikeforce and Affliction, among many others.
