Paige VanZant One of the UFC’s fastest rising female stars, Paige VanZant , picked up her fourth straight victory this past Saturday at UFC 191 in Las Vegas. The popular 21-year-old easily dispatched of “TUF 20” contestant Alex Chambers in strawweight action on the main card. VanZant (6-1 MMA, 3-0 UFC) kept Chambers (5-3 MMA, 1-2 UFC) on the defensive throughout the one-sided fight by pinning her against the cage and landing numerous knees to the body and head. Chambers attempted a guillotine choke late in the opening round, but VanZant continued her dominance in Round 2.

Guillard, who lost a split-call to Brandon Girtz in the event’s headliner, will now walk the road to recovery after his debut setback, the promoter told MMAjunkie Radio. “He’s going to go to the doctor today and maybe have surgery today or tomorrow,” Coker said today

Justin Wren hopes successful MMA return brings more aid, attention to Congo

His efforts to help his oppressed, adopted family came after a long period of his life that saw the veteran heavyweight struggle with addiction and a litany of personal issues. Recovery and humanitarian work have turned around Wren’s life and led to an MMA return at this past Friday’s Bellator 141 event after a more than five-year absence from competition. Wren won a unanimous decision over Josh Burns (8-9 MMA, 0-6 BMMA) at the Spike-televised event. Wren (11-2 MMA, 1-0 BMMA) has used the Bellator platform to promote his “ Fight for the Forgotten ” campaign, which includes a new book. He said he’s back to fighting full-time with a goal of a Bellator title belt, a goal that would bring even more attention to his Pygmie family

Marloes Coenen wants Bellator to host women’s title fight: ‘Time is right’

Coenen (23-6 MMA, 2-0 BMMA) picked up her second Bellator victory this past Friday when she submitted Arlene Blencowe (6-5 MMA, 1-1 BMMA) with a second-round armbar in the main-card opener. The women’s featherweight bout was originally planned for the preliminary card, but a last-minute injury to Lorenzo Hood resulted in a promotion to the Spike-televised main card. Coenen originally was upset that she wasn’t going to be on the televised card.

After Bellator 141 upset, Brandon Girtz recalls in-fight chat with Melvin Guillard

Midway through the fight, his opponent, Brandon Girtz , reminder him that it was a bad idea. Girtz (12-4 MMA, 5-2 BMMA) rocked Guillard (34-14-2 MMA, 0-1 BMMA), a UFC and WSOF vet who was making his Bellator debut, early with a punch and then continually took him to the mat to score a split-decision victory (watch the highlights below). Prior to the fight, in which Girtz was a 3-1 underdog, Guillard told MMAjunkie he handpicked his opponent .

Ilima Macfarlane: ‘Soccer mom’ KO video not the reason I got a Bellator contract

It features Macfarlane making her pro debut with the controversial Xplode Fight Series organization. In it, Macfarlane takes on – and needs just 10 seconds to defeat – Katie Castro, who’s now 0-4 and clearly has no business being in a cage with an actual MMA fighter. The January bout is uncomfortable to watch (via YouTube ). The video, which has garnered more than 1.2 million views on XFS’ official Youtube account (and hundreds of thousands more on other accounts), has actually prompted the California State Athletic Commission to investigate unsanctioned shows that take place on the state’s Native American reservations, MMAFighting.com ‘s Marc Raimondi recently reported.
