Goiti Yamauchi (19-2 MMA, 5-1 BMMA) is coming off his third straight win, and second straight submission, a little more than a week ago. At 5-1 under the Bellator banner, Yamauchi thinks he’s just the type of fighter who should be going after Freire’s 145-pound belt . First, though, “Pitbull” Freire (24-2 MMA, 12-2 BMMA) has to get past former titleholder Daniel Straus (24-6 MMA, 10-3 BMMA) for a third time. The two headline Bellator 145 on Friday at Scottrade Center in St. Louis with a main card on Spike after prelims on MMAjunkie.

The top of the division has been dominated over the past three years by a trio of fighters – Pat Curran, Daniel Straus (24-6 MMA, 10-3 BMMA) and Patricio Freire (24-2 MMA, 12-2 BMMA), the latter of whom now holds the title. In the headliner of next month’s Spike-televised Bellator 145 event, Freire fights Straus for the third time.
