Holly Holm and Ronda Rousey The MMA landscape changed dramatically on Nov. 15 when the sport’s biggest female star, Ronda Rousey , suffered a crushing loss at “UFC 193: Rousey vs. Holm” in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Rousey was knocked out by a second-round head kick from former pound-for-pound boxing queen Holly Holm , who became the new UFC women’s bantamweight champion. Leading up to the much-hyped title tilt, most observers expected Holm (10-0 MMA, 3-0 UFC) would be quickly finished by Rousey (12-1 MMA, 6-1 UFC), who had developed an aura of invincibility after knocking out or submitting each of her first six UFC opponents.

In Friday’s Bellator 145 headliner, which aired on Spike from WinStar World Casino and Resort in Thackerville, Okla., the prolific striker was the disher, not dishee. Manhoef (30-12-1 MMA, 2-1 BMMA) took some early damager but rebounded to score a sweet fight-ending left hook on Hisaki Kato (6-2 MMA, 1-1 BMMA), which produced the first-round knockout win . Melvin Manhoef Melvin Manhoef and Hisaki Kato were expected to go toe-to-toe in the Bellator 146 main event, and that’s exactly what happened before “No Mercy” scored a first-round knockout victory . Manhoef (30-12-1 MMA, 2-1 BMMA) exchanged in fearless striking exchanges with Kato (5-2 MMA, 1-1 BMMA) for several minutes before a perfect overhand left knocked the French fighter down and out. Manhoef was the subject of retirement pressure following back-to-back knockouts under the Bellator banner, but at 39, it appears he still has something left to offer.

Julia Budd expects to fight for inaugural featherweight title with Bellator 146 win

Julia Budd The Bellator women’s featherweight division has been in existence for less than one year, and Julia Budd thinks it’s about time to crown a champion. Budd (7-2 MMA, 1-0 BMMA) believes a victory over Roberta Paim Rovel (4-0 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) at Friday’s Bellator 146 event on Friday should be enough to put her in position to fight for that title. She’s not sure if that will be the case but said the chance to fight for a belt is one of her driving motivations

The event takes place at WinStar World Casino and Resort in Thackerville, Okla., with the main card – including Girtz vs. Campos – on Spike following prelims on MMAjunkie. Girtz was an unknown to many prior to his main-event spot against Guillard at Bellator 141 in August
