Bellator fighters talk promotion’s push to expand internationally

Bellator fighters discuss free agency trend in MMA

With the signings of highly ranked Phil Davis (15-3 MMA, 2-0 BMMA), No. 4 in the USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie MMA light heavyweight rankings , and Benson Henderson (23-5 MMA, 0-0 BMMA), honorable mention in the pound-for-pound rankings and force in both the lightweight and welterweight divisions, Bellator upgraded their roster significantly. MMAjunkie caught up with several of the fighters on this past weekend’s Bellator 152 card, which took place at Pala Alpitour in Turin, Italy with a Spike-televised main card, to discuss the subject of free agency. Among those commenting was co-main event winner Alessio Sakara (18-11 MMA, 1-0 BMMA), who scored a second-round knockout of Brian Rogers.

Making the moment even better for Yankova (3-0 MMA, 1-0 BMMA) was the fact her grappling coach called the flyweight’s shot. “Right before I left Thailand, my grappling coach told me I would win in the first round with a submission and it just came true,” Yankova told MMAjunkie following her victory on the Spike-televised main card from Pala Alpitour in Turin, Italy.

Freire (16-7 MMA, 9-6 BMMA) bested short-notice replacement opponent Kevin Souza (15-5 MMA, 0-1 BMMA) by unanimous decision in Saturday’s Bellator 152 headliner, which took place at Pala Alpitour in Turin, Italy. It gave him his second straight victory. Although “Pitbull” has had a turbulent run in Bellator, he’s seemingly found his groove over the past few years, winning six of his past eight bouts. He said that streak shouldn’t go unrewarded, and at title shot would be fitting.
