And his boss, Bellator President Scott Coker, thinks his welterweight titleholder ought to be considered among the best two or three 170-pounders on the planet. (Check out the video highlights of his win above.) In the main event of Bellator 153, which took place at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., with a main card on Spike following prelims on MMAjunkie, Koreshkov (19-1 MMA, 11-1 BMMA) defended his belt with a 50-45 sweep of the scorecards against former UFC lightweight champ Henderson (23-6 MMA, 0-1 BMMA)

Michael Page With a Bellator 153 win, Michael Page made sure Bellator officials’ ambitious matchmaking plans didn’t go to waste. This past Friday in a Spike-televised main-card bout, Page (10-0 MMA, 5-0 BMMA), a striking specialist, tapped out fellow welterweight Jeremy Holloway (7-2 MMA, 0-2 BMMA) with a first-round toehold : Before the event, officials went ahead and announced Page will next fight on July 16 at Bellator 158. Page meets 38-fight vet Fernanda Gonzalez (25-13 MMA, 5-0 BMMA), who’s defeated the likes of Gilbert Smith, Marius Zaromskis and Karo Parisyan since joining Bellator in 2014. The event takes place in Page’s home country with The O2 in London playing host. By emerging from Bellator 153 relatively unscathed, Page is now looking ahead to Bellator 158 – and beyond. In Bellator 153’s headliner, welterweight champion Andrey Koreshkov (19-1 MMA, 11-1 BMMA) dominated former UFC titleholder Benson Henderson (23-6 MMA, 0-1 BMMA)

But at Bellator 153, Primus (7-0 MMA, 5-0 BMMA) took a split decision from Santos (27-6 MMA, 0-2 BMMA), and nearly as soon as his hand was raised, he was ready to move beyond the close call and onto an opponent with a bigger name.

Filed under: Bellator , News Evangelista Santos triumphantly returned to a prominent stage in MMA on Friday, submitting Brennan Ward in just 30 seconds at Bellator 153. Santos has been around the block in a career approaching 20 years. Following his November 1997 debut, “Cyborg” fought for Pancrase, PRIDE, Cage Rage, Sengoku and even challenged Nick Diaz for the Strikeforce welterweight title in January 2011. Now Santos (21-16 MMA, 1-0 BMMA) is with Bellator, and he made a big statement in the organization’s welterweight division when he halted Ward’s (13-4 MMA, 8-4 BMMA) four-fight winning streak with the help of a vicious heel hook (check out the highlights of his win above). As far as debuts go, it doesn’t get much better than what Santos pulled off on Bellator 153’s Spike-televised main card at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. He attacked Ward’s legs early and finished with the submission, an opportunity he said he predicted would be available.

Patricio Freire Patricio Freire said an injury created a tougher fight than anticipated at Bellator 153. Nevertheless, he picked up the victory and expects a featherweight title shot as a result. Freire (25-3 MMA, 13-3 BMMA) earned another decisive finish after stopping Henry Corrales (12-3 MMA, 0-3 BMMA) with a second-round submission in the Spike-televised co-main event at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn

Henderson (23-6 MMA, 0-1 BMMA), a former UFC and WEC champion, was a 2-1 favorite over reigning welterweight champion Andrey Koreshkov (19-1 MMA, 11-1 BMMA), who ultimately scored a shutout unanimous-decision victory to earn his most pivotal win to date. Check out highlights of the fight, which aired on Spike from Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., above. Koreshkov wasn’t the only big winner, though. In the co-headliner, former featherweight champ Patricio Freire (25-3 MMA, 13-3 BMMA) submitted late-replacement opponent Henry Corrales (12-3 MMA, 0-3 BMMA) with a deep guillotine choke in his first fight since losing the title
