Bellator 163 results: Phil Davis dominates Liam McGeary to capture light heavyweight belt

Liam McGeary thought he could force Phil Davis into takedown attempts and take advantage with his guard at Bellator 163. Instead, Davis dominated on the ground and captured the light heavy title by lopsided decision. The event took place at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. The main card aired on Spike following prelims on MMAjunkie. Davis (17-3 MMA, 4-0 BMMA) tagged McGeary (11-1 MMA, 8-1 BMMA) with a left hook in Round 1, taking the champ’s confidence on the feet for much of the round. Davis scored a takedown and went into mount and spent the round forcing McGeary to defend from every position until the opening round came to a close.

Tyrell Fortune doesn’t want to be an average wrestler at Bellator 163

Heavyweight newcomer Tyrell Fortune wakes up every day thinking about his professional MMA debut. Obsessive? Maybe, but for the former collegiate wrestler turned fighter, that’s a good thing. “I woke up at 6 o’clock this morning thinking about it, and if anybody knows me, I do not wake up at 6 o’clock in the morning,” Fortune told MMAjunkie. The anticipation is building for the 26-year-old’s Bellator 163 fight with Cody Miskell, who has but one amateur fight on his record, a first-round TKO win. Fortune (0-0 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) initially wondered whether the 300-pound fighter could make weight, but his concerns were allayed on Thursday when Miskell (0-0 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) clocked in at 263 pounds for the 265-pound fight.

Bellator 163’s Sergei Kharitonov was nearly bedridden for 2 months after canceled debut

Bellator heavyweight Sergei Kharitonov can’t remember the name of the virus that forced him to withdraw from his promotional debut. But he’ll never forget what it did to him. “It took me two months to fully recover,” Kharitonov (23-5 MMA, 0-0 BMMA), who tonight meets Javy Ayala (9-5 MMA, 4-2 BMMA) tonight at Bellator 163, told MMAjunkie via a translator.

Some bad news if you were anxious to see Paul Daley back in action tonight at Bellator 163. After a difficult weight cut, hard-hitting Daley (38-14-2 MMA, 4-1 BMMA) has been pulled from his welterweight bout with Derek Anderson (14-2 MMA, 5-2 BMMA). A Bellator official today confirmed the change with MMAjunkie. MMAFighting.com first reported it. Bellator 163 takes place at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn.

Bellator 163 weigh-in results: Headliners on weight but main-card bout scrapped

Bellator 163 takes place Friday at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., with a main card on Spike following prelims on MMAjunkie. Among those weighing in were light heavyweight champion Liam McGeary (11-0 MMA, 8-0 BMMA) and challenger Phil Davis (16-3 MMA, 3-0 BMMA), who headline the card. Each fighter weighed 204 pounds. A main-card bout between Talita Nogueira (6-0 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) and Marloes Coenen (23-7 MMA, 2-1 BMMA) was scrapped after Nogueira was unable to cut additional weight and fell short by 5.6 pounds during early weigh-ins.
