Alessio Sakara (19-11 MMA, 2-0 BMMA) never had lost a fight in his home country, including his Bellator debut earlier this year when he knocked out Brian Rogers. His home run continued at Bellator 168 when he shut down Joey Beltran (17-14 MMA, 2-5 BMMA) quickly into the first round.

Middleweight prospect Ed Ruth announced as late addition to Saturday’s Bellator 168

Ed Ruth will take his second professional MMA contest just five weeks after his successful debut in the sport. Bellator officials today announced that Ruth (1-0 MMA, 1-0 BMMA) will face Italian middleweight Emanuele Palombi (5-2 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) at Saturday’s Bellator 168 event, which takes place at Mandela Forum in Florence, Italy, and airs live on Spike. The 26-year-old Ruth was a three-time NCAA national champion while wrestling at Penn State and signed with Bellator prior to his professional debut. He first stepped in the cage at November’s Bellator 163 event, scoring a first-round TKO of Dustin Collins-Miles. Meanwhile, Palombi makes his Bellator debut on the strength of a three-fight winning streak that includes three first-round stoppages.

Joey Beltran digging in for last stand, promises fists, blood and sweat at Bellator 168

With four fights remaining on his current Bellator contract, Joey Beltran said he considers the current stage of his career to be his last chance at doing something meaningful. Beltran’s (17-13 MMA, 3-4 BMMA) career to this point hasn’t been a throwaway by any stretch. He’s a 10-fight UFC veteran, six-time Bellator veteran and has even challenged for a Bellator title. Despite all that, Beltran claims he’s still looking to display his best work, which he expects to come out during Friday’s main event showdown with Alessio Sakara (18-11 MMA, 1-0 BMMA) at Bellator 168. “It’s usually all just lip service or trying to pump yourself up and say the right things for the fights; people say, ‘Oh, I’m in a great place, I had a great training camp’ and all that (expletive), but literally, I am,” Beltran told MMAjunkie.

Injury knocks champ Rafael Carvalho from Bellator 168 main event vs. Melvin Manhoef

The stretch of Bellator headliners falling through will continue through the organization’s return to Italy next week. Bellator middleweight champion Rafael Carvalho (13-1 MMA, 4-0 BMMA) is injured and out of the Bellator 168 main event with Melvin Manhoef (30-13-1 MMA, 2-2 BMMA), scheduled for Dec. 10 at Nelson Mandela Forum in Florence, Italy. The card airs on Spike. Taking the place of the main event slot with be a middleweight bout between Italy’s Alessio Sakara (18-11 MMA, 1-0 BMMA) and Joey Beltran (17-13 MMA, 2-4 BMMA), who were originally slated to co-headline the card. Details regarding Carvalho’s injury have yet to be confirmed, but it postpones his rematch with Manhoef following their original meeting at Bellator 155 in May, which Carvalho won by controversial split decision .
