Haters gonna hate, as James Gallagher has recently learned in a major way, but the Bellator fighter is not letting it get to him. Gallagher (7-1 MMA, 4-1 BMMA) was the one with eyes on him as he entered the cage to meet Ricky Bandejas (11-1 MMA, 1-0 BMMA) last week at Bellator 204. The Irishman didn’t exactly shy away from it, either, sticking to his usual big-talking ways throughout the build-up. For better or worse, the attention remained when the brash Brit left after a stunning knockout loss that tainted his previously unbeaten record. Bellator 204 couldn’t have gone much better for Darrion Caldwell , and he believes a shot at promotional history now lies on the horizon. Caldwell (13-1 MMA, 10-1 BMMA), Bellator’s current bantamweight champion, made it clear leading into this past weekend’s event in South Dakota that his current goal is to challenge for the promotion’s featherweight title, as well, in an effort to become the organization’s first two-division champion.

The results on fight night indicate he likely won’t have to worry about the Irishman anytime soon. Gallagher (7-1 MMA, 4-1 BMMA) came into Bellator 204 talking a big game about how he would knock his opponent out then force the champ Caldwell (13-1 MMA, 10-1 BMMA) to travel to Dublin for a title defense. Those plans were derailed, though, when Gallagher suffered a first-round knockout courtesy of Ricky Bandejas.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Featherweight Tywan Claxton systematically broke down Chris Lencioni to open the Paramount-televised main card of Bellator 204. But even before the cameras started rolling, Claxton was softening up his rival. When Claxton (3-0 MMA, 3-0 BMMA) refused to allow Lencioni (4-2 MMA, 1-2 BMMA) a catchweight the day prior , it was part of a strategy to make his opponent suffer. “He broke when he didn’t make weight, and so I wanted to break him more,” Claxton told reporters following a lopsided win on Friday at Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, S.D. “I wanted to play with his mental (game) a little bit more.” Lencioni, who started his weight cut from 180 pounds just three weeks prior to the fight, couldn’t shed enough bulk to make the 146-pound limit for non-title featherweight bouts

Bellator hosted its 13th event of the year on Friday with Bellator 204. The event took place at Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, S.D., and aired on Paramount following prelims streamed on MMAjunkie. Bantamweight champion Darrion Caldwell (13-1 MMA, 10-1 BMMA) made a successful return to the featherweight division in the main event, when he knocked out Noad Lahat (12-4 MMA, 3-2 BMMA) in the second round of a non-title affair .
