The Bellator heavyweight grand prix final is set for Jan. 26, when either Ryan Bader of Fedor Emelianenko will be crowned the promotion’s new heavyweight champion. For our latest Daily Debate for MMAjunkie Radio listeners and MMAjunkie Readers, we’re looking past that. We wanted to know who you thought would be first in line to challenge the Bader-Emelianenko for the title, and we gave you three options. They are: Sergei Kharitonov (28-6 MMA, 2-1 BMMA) – The 38-year-old Russian hasn’t lost since November 2016, a streak that includes five wins and one no-contest for an accidental eye poke, and he just knocked out Roy Nelson at Bellator 207 this past weekend, which is no easy task. Kharitonov became just the third person to finish Nelson, but by doing so inside the first round, he is the quickest. Hard to deny him.

Ryan Bader already has proven himself one of the world’s top light heavyweights, and now he’s making a case a weight class up. Ryan Bader (26-5 MMA, 4-0 BMMA), Bellator’s light heavyweight champion, outworked natural heavyweight Matt Mitrione (13-6 MMA, 4-1 BMMA) for a unanimous decision in the Bellator 207 main event this past Friday night and moved into the heavyweight grand prix tournament final. There, in January, he’ll take on the legendary Fedor Emelianenko (38-5 MMA, 2-1 BMMA), who stopped Chael Sonnen (30-16-1 MMA, 2-2 BMMA) in the first round of the Bellator 208 main event Saturday to advance to the final on the other half of the bracket. A win for Bader over Emelianenko would make him a simultaneous two-division champion, just like Daniel Cormier is right now in the UFC.

She did – but she didn’t realize going in just how little work that would be. It amounted to just 82 seconds for a TKO win for Chieng (1-0 MMA, 1-0 BMMA) over Jessica Ruiz (0-1 MMA, 0-1 BMMA) at Bellator 208 on Saturday night. “I was hoping to do a little bit more striking and then maybe work on all the things that we have been working on in this camp – because I had a really good fight camp,” Chieng said after her win.

This past Friday at Bellator 207, Ryan Bader (26-5 MMA, 4-0 BMMA) outworked Matt Mitrione (13-6 MMA, 4-1 BMMA) for three rounds to advance to the final. And Saturday, at Bellator 208, Fedor Emelianenko (38-5 MMA, 2-1 BMMA) finished Chael Sonnen (30-16-1 MMA, 2-2 BMMA) with a first-round TKO. Now Bader and Emelianenko will meet for the vacant heavyweight title – and Bader will be trying to add a second belt to go with his light heavyweight crown.

The Bellator heavyweight grand prix tournament final is set after back-to-back big events this past weekend. Bellator’s heavyweight tournament was an ambitious undertaking that started earlier this year with an eight-man field. In January, the tournament will culminate with a winner – and new heavyweight champion. On Friday night at Bellator 207, Ryan Bader (26-5 MMA, 4-0 BMMA) outworked Matt Mitrione (13-6 MMA, 4-1 BMMA) for a unanimous decision .

UNIONDALE, N.Y. – After a knockout win over Timothy Johnson on Saturday at Bellator 208, Cheick Kongo was polite but stern in expressing what he believes he’s earned . “If I didn’t fight for the belt, it would be a big shame,” Kong told reporters, including MMAjunkie, after the Paramount-televised heavyweight bout at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. “It’s been now three years, seven wins in a row – a win is a win.” One can definitely see where Kongo (29-10-2 MMA, 11-2 BMMA) is coming from.
