More than a year later, it is clear Ryan Bader ’s win over Fedor Emelianenko was one of the most important of his career. The Arizona native stopped Emelianenko just 35 seconds into their heavyweight contest in the main event of Bellator 214 back in January 2019. The win crowned Bader (27-5 MMA, 5-0 BMMA) as the winner of both the heavyweight Grand Prix and the Bellator heavyweight champion. The victory also made him a champ-champ, as he already held the light heavyweight title. Bader also extended his win streak to seven with the finish. Featherweight contender Henry Corrales figures all the title talk that accompanied Aaron Pico to Bellator 214 will transfer to him. “It definitely would be nice to get back in there with ‘Pitbull’ and mix it up with that guy,” Corrales told MMAjunkie Radio after his shocking knockout of Pico this past Saturday. Corrales told MMAjunkie Radio it will be a different fight if he can get in front of current champ Patricio “Pitbull” Freire a second time. “It’d be cool to get in there with a full camp for that guy,” he said. “At this stage of my career, I’m just operating on a different frequency these days at The MMA Lab.” The two faced off at Bellator 153 in April 2016, with Freire taking home a second-round submission win. Bader, now the first double champion in Bellator history, is riding high after a crushing first-round knockout of legend Fedor Emelianenko to claim the title this past weekend at Bellator 214.
