Paul Daley still isn’t done with Michael Page: ‘I think I deserve a rematch’

Paul Daley says he isn’t still holding a grudge against Michael Page no matter what his promoters say. But he also still wants a rematch with the fighter nicknamed “Venom.” Daley and Page fought what was billed as the biggest grudge match in Bellator history in February at Bellator 216. The welterweight grand prix quarterfinal instead turned out to be a tactical affair, one that went to a razor-thin decision on the scorecards as Page got the unanimous nod. Page continues on in the tournament to fight former Bellator welterweight champion Douglas Lima in the semifinals, and now Daley (40-17-2 MMA, 6-4 BMMA) has his next bout lined up, as he’ll meet veteran Erick Silva (20-10 MMA, 0-1 BMMA) on June 22 at the SSE Arena, Wembley in London.

Tyrell Fortune blasts Jack Hager’s main card placement, says ‘come get some smoke’ to heavyweights

UNCASVILLE, Conn. – Heavyweight Tyrell Fortune is how 6-0 in the Bellator cage. He’d like a promotion. To all the other fighters in the big-man division, Fortune said interested parties can “come get some smoke.” And that includes up-and-comer Jake Hager . Fortune, 28, is none too pleased the former WWE wrestler known as “Jack Swagger” got prime placement in his first promotional outing, and he wants to bring him back to earth – or perhaps send him into orbit, as he indicated after a first-round stoppage at this past Saturday’s Bellator 216 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn.

Bellator got its start based around the tournament format carried out over seasons. More recently, under Scott Coker’s leadership, Bellator has brought the grand prix tournament back to the forefront with eight-man fields spread out over roughly a year. The promotion’s heavyweight tournament wrapped up in January, and a welterweight tourney is ongoing. This past Saturday after Bellator 216 in Connecticut, Coker said the promotion is likely to do a featherweight tournament that will be announced this fall and that the company would like to have a new tourney going on every year. The UFC has had tournaments sparingly, though it has done them – and has done some unofficial ones, as well

The second half of Bellator’s weekend doubleheader took place on Saturday with Bellator 216. The event went down at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., and streamed on DAZN following prelims on MMAjunkie. Arguably the biggest grudge match in company history headlined the card. It didn’t live up to the hype, but Michael Page (14-0 MMA, 10-0 BMMA) managed to advance to the welterweight grand prix semifinals with a unanimous-decision victory over fellow Brit Paul Daley (40-17-2 MMA, 6-4 BMMA). Ryan Bader scoffs at Cheick Kongo’s title threat, not impressed by Bellator 216 performance

Cheick Kongo became the No. 1 contender for the Bellator heavyweight title Saturday night and talked big afterward. Champion Ryan Bader , however, is not impressed. Kongo handed former champ Vitaly Minakov the first loss of his career at Bellator 216, earning a unanimous decision to cement himself as the next challenger to Bader’s title. Kongo’s performance was hardly spectacular, though.
