Under normal circumstances, MMA fans in London would be getting themselves ready for a packed card of fights at the SSE Arena, Wembley for Bellator Europe 8 on Saturday. But as we all know, right now we don’t live under normal circumstances. The continued restrictions to combat the COVID-19 pandemic mean U.K.-based MMA fans will have to sit tight and wait a little longer to get their live dose of Bellator action. But in the meantime, the promotion has offered a small taster of what fans can expect when Bellator’s European Series events get back up and running later this year by releasing a highlight reel featuring a fistful of fight finishes from previous events in London. Bellator’s chief of Europe David Green: ‘We would dearly love’ to put on a show in Amsterdam

David Green says Bellator hopes to go Dutch by taking a huge card to the Netherlands in the not-too-distant future. The nation’s influence was there for all to see during Bellator’s twin-card event in London this past weekend with a host of big-name Dutch stars in action in the cage and a rowdy, enthusiastic contingent of Dutch fans in the stands, roaring them on. LONDON – Fabian Edwards is a fighter who loves to thrill the crowd with his performances, so he was a little disappointed when the fans at The SSE Arena started to boo towards the end of his Bellator 223 bout against Jonathan Bosuku on Saturday night. LONDON – Paul Daley is back in the win column after a spectacular performance against Erick Silva in the main event of Bellator 223. The knockout finish wasn’t quite there for the heavy-handed Brit (41-17-2 MMA, 7-4 BMMA), but it certainly wasn’t for the lack of trying, as Silva (20-11 MMA, 0-2 BMMA) proved to be a remarkably durable opponent in a bout that turned into a three-round firefight at The SSE Arena. “He has a fantastic chin,” Daley told reporters backstage after his victory. “I’ve seen numerous fights where he’s been hit with one big shot and goes down, and I thought that’s what was going to happen tonight.” Daley explained that his slight reach advantage played a part in the contest, cheekily framing it thus: “In another interview, I said it’s about inches, and I said I had more inches than him. I had the bigger length,” he grinned

LONDON – Paul Daley lived up to his “Semtex” nickname with an explosive performance in the Bellator 223 headliner at The SSE Arena, as he claimed a thrilling unanimous decision victory over fellow veteran Erick Silva . Daley (41-17-2 MMA, 7-4 BMMA) started out as advertised, looking to strike with Silva (20-11 MMA, 0-2 BMMA), and connected with some sharp shots before the Brazilian eventually closed the distance and dragged the Brit to the canvas. But while Silva was able to transition to Daley’s back and get both hooks in, the Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt was unable to secure a submission, with the bell sounding to end the round just as he looked set to lock up a rear-naked choke. Daley came storming out for the second round and connected with a powerful three-piece combination that sparked a wild 90 seconds of action that had the Wembley crowd on their feet. Sensing Silva was hurt, Daley threw everything he had at the Brazilian, connecting with a succession of huge strikes with hands, feet and knees. Despite the relentless barrage heading his way, Silva took the shots well but started to wilt as Daley ripped the Brazilian to the body and head, with the Wembley crowd greeting every shot with loud gasps from The SSE Arena stands.

The judges’ scores were 30-27 across the board. Edwards (8-0 MMA, 4-0 BMMA) started the contest looking loose and fought slightly off the back foot, attempting to pick off Bosuku (7-5 MMA, 0-1 BMMA) on the way in. But despite connecting with a few eye-catching strikes – and almost landing a spectacular flying knee – the British prospect was unable to overly trouble Bosuku, who plodded forward throughout
