Ready to fix his mistakes, Douglas Lima says Bellator 260 title loss just ‘another bump in the road’

Douglas Lima is no stranger to bouncing back and that’s exactly what he plans on doing after losing his welterweight title. Former three-time welterweight champion Lima was dethroned by undefeated Yaroslav Amosov in the Bellator 260 main event Friday at Mohegan Sun Arena. Lima was controlled by the Ukrainian Sambo champion throughout the fight, having no answer for his wrestling. Lima (32-8 MMA, 14-4 BMMA) took to Instagram to reflect on his setback, offering no excuses for his second straight loss. “First thank you Lord for another day of work! I am nothing without you. Not much just say, had an amazing camp, thankful for everyone at my team, my family, all of you that supports me win or lose! I love you all.

It’s been quite the swing in career momentum for Douglas Lima . Just two fights ago Lima (32-9 MMA, 14-5 BMMA) was the Bellator welterweight champion who was getting ready to move up to middleweight and challenge for a second title against Gegard Mousasi. Fast-forward to today, and not only did Lima come up short in his champ-champ bid, but he lost his 170-pound title to Yaroslav Amosov (26-0 MMA, 7-0 BMMA). Lima was thoroughly outworked by Amosov in a unanimous decision loss in the Bellator 260 headliner this past Friday, and suddenly “The Phenom” is on a two-fight skid. The wrestling of his opponent was too much to overcome, and that element has been a reoccurring issue for Lima throughout his career. The three-time Bellator tournament winner is now 33 years old, and has 41 professional fights under his belt dating back to his MMA debut in July 2006

Pico (8-3 MMA, 8-3 BMMA) notched his fourth consecutive win when he submitted Aiden Lee in the third round Friday at Bellator 260, which took place at Mohegan Sun Arena. The Jackson Wink MMA fighter, who had his momentum halted early in his career, has come into his own, displaying a dominant and well rounded game against Lee, which had Coker in awe. “From what I saw tonight, to me, he was the star of the night,” Coker told reporters at the Bellator 260 post-fight news conference. “Because his improvement of his complete game, and we’re talking left, right, body shot, takedown, his transitions were amazing.

UNCASVILLE, Conn. – Scott Coker thinks Claressa Shields will really struggle once she faces an accomplished grappler. Two-time Olympic gold medalist boxer and world champion Shields (1-0) made good in her MMA debut when she rallied to stop Brittney Elkin (3-7) in the third round in a non-regular season lightweight bout at at 2021 PFL 4 this past Thursday. But Shields’ win didn’t come without adversity when she found herself trying to fight off a full mount early. Although she showed toughness and heart to turn things around, Coker says the hole in her grappling game won’t be closed over night. “Congratulations to her,” Coker told reporters at the Bellator 260 post-fight news conference.
