Bellator Europe 8 takes place Sept. 26 at the Allianz Cloud in Milan, Italy, with a 10-fight preliminary card setting the stage ahead of a three-bout all-middleweight main card. Headlining the event is a battle of European middleweight contenders as England’s Fabian Edwards (9-0 MMA, 5-0 BMMA) takes on the Netherlands’ Costello van Steenis (12-2 MMA, 4-1 BMMA)

Two of the top middleweight talents on Bellator’s European roster are set to collide in Italy as England’s Fabian Edwards puts his undefeated record on the line against Dutch contender Costello van Steenis . The two 185-pound contenders will go head to head in the main event of Bellator Europe 8, which takes place Sept. 26 at the Allianz Cloud in Milan, Italy. Bellator officially confirmed the matchup Tuesday. The fight marks Edwards’ (9-0 MMA, 5-0 BMMA) return to action for the first time since his split-decision victory over fellow countryman Mike Shipman at Bellator Europe 6 last November. That victory capped off a successful year for the Birmingham native, who went 4-0 inside the Bellator cage in 2019 following a stint with UK promotion BAMMA

The continued restrictions to combat the COVID-19 pandemic mean U.K.-based MMA fans will have to sit tight and wait a little longer to get their live dose of Bellator action. But in the meantime, the promotion has offered a small taster of what fans can expect when Bellator’s European Series events get back up and running later this year by releasing a highlight reel featuring a fistful of fight finishes from previous events in London. Bellator postponed three additional events from its May calendar due to the coronavirus pandemic. Bellator 232 (San Jose, Calif.) on May 9, Bellator Europe 8 (London) on May 16 and Bellator 243 (Temecula, Calif.) on May 29 were all pushed back due to safety concerns over the ongoing crisis, causing more than 30 matchups to fall apart. There were certainly some matchups of significance and great intrigue on the docket, too, but which fight is the biggest loss from our upcoming watchlist? MMA Junkie’s Mike Bohn, Dave Doyle, and Farah Hannoun give their opinions in the latest edition of Triple Take.

And as such, Bellator continues to demonstrate their commitment to ensuring the health and safety of their athletes and employees in the wake of the worldwide pandemic. The company’s May events have been officially postponed. MMA Junkie confirmed a Monday report by ESPN with a source who had knowledge of the situation. The promotion later confirmed the news in a press release. “As always, the health and safety of our athletes, fans, partners and staff remains our top priority,” the statement read

James Gallagher sees Bellator gold in his near future. The 23-year-old Irish prospect is scheduled to take on Cal Ellenor in the main event of Bellator Europe 8 on May 16. Gallagher (10-1 MMA, 7-1 BMMA) sees himself picking up a win in London and then fighting for the vacant bantamweight title against one of the bigger names in the division. “One-hundred percent, (Sergio) Pettis,” Gallagher told MMA Junkie.

Saul Rogers, Rob Whiteford set for featherweight ‘Battle of Britain’ at Bellator London

A battle between two of the U.K.’s most familiar featherweight names has been added to the preliminary card for Bellator Europe 8 in London. Former contender from “The Ultimate Fighter 22,” England’s Saul Rogers , will go head-to-head with Scottish former UFC featherweight Rob Whiteford in a 145-pound preliminary bout at SSE Arena, Wembley on May 16. Rogers (13-3 MMA, 1-1 BMMA) is looking to bounce back to winning ways after his decision loss to German contender Daniel Weichel in the first round of the Bellator featherweight grand prix, while Whiteford (16-4 MMA, 1-0 BMMA) will be keen to claim back-to-back victories for his new promotion following his dramatic last-gasp knockout of Sam Sicilia with just six seconds of the fight remaining at Bellator Europe 6 last November. Also added to the preliminary slate is a lightweight bout between rising English prospects Alfie Davis and Tim Wilde .
