Photo by Amy Kaplan/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images Former Bellator welterweight Dante Schiro had one of the biggest moments of his career in June when he stopped multi-time PFL champ Ray Cooper III in the featured bout of Tuff-N-Uff 145, but it was overshadowed by a viral moment courtesy of Sean Strickland . Schiro is now 3-0 since leaving Bellator, and is knocking on the door of a UFC opportunity. Typically, stopping a guy like Cooper would be the highlight of a non-UFC event, but during Luis Hernandez’s submission win over Miles Hunsinger, Hernandez talked some trash towards Strickland and Chris Curtis , who were cornering Hunsinger.

Dillon Danis to fight for MMA title at Misfits Boxing 22

Dillon Danis Dillon Danis will compete in a MMA bout in Misfits Boxing when he faces debutant Warren Spencer at the upcoming card in Manchester, England on Aug. 30, the promotion announced. The Misfits MMA light heavyweight title will be on the line, although the match will be contested at 170 pounds.

Alexander Volkanovski | Photo by Megan Briggs/Getty Images Alexander Volkanovski turned back the clock to reclaim the UFC featherweight belt with a win over a much young Diego Lopes in April, but Patricio Pitbull doesn’t see “The Great” having another long reign in the division. Pitbull, a former two-division champion in Bellator who faces Dan Ige in the main card of Saturday night’s UFC 318 in New Orleans, expects the 145-pound legend to struggle against one specific type of challenge going forward. “A fight is a fight, obviously, but I see he doesn’t have a good chin anymore,” Pitbull said of Volkanovski during an interview with MMA Fighting.

Ex-Turner executive John Martin takes over as PFL CEO

The PFL has a new chief executive officer. On Thursday, the PFL announced that John Martin would be taking over as CEO after Peter Murray previously served in that role with the fight promotion. There’s no word on why Murray is out, but Martin takes over after an extensive career working in broadcast television.

In the main event, undefeated Lerone Murphy won a clear unanimous decision over former interim title challenger Josh Emmett. Murphy entered the week at No. 12 in the 145-pound division, but after his second main event win, lands at No. 8 in this week’s rankings update

The 25 greatest Bellator fighters who never fought in the UFC

The official end of Bellator MMA (originally known as Bellator Fighting Championships from its debut in 2009 through 2012), coupled with the constant news of former Bellator fighters expressing their discontent with the PFL, has definitely brought on a wave of nostalgia for me – perhaps a bigger wave than I would have imagined. I’m extremely grateful for my time as a Bellator play-by-play commentator, which spanned 127 events and (somehow) exactly 1,250 fights from 2010 through 2015. One to never keep track of things like this, I went back and counted for this article. Even though I had already commentated Pride and M1 Global, when Bellator founder Bjorn Rebney hired me in November 2009, he gave me a gig that fully shifted me from being a soccer commentator to a fight commentator – which is exactly what I wanted, and for which I will always be extremely grateful. The announcement of Patricio Freire – arguably the greatest fighter in Bellator history and inarguably the fighter with the best-ever Bellator career – signing with the UFC definitely created a conversation about which other Bellator alumni could soon make this move. This also has opened up discussions about which now-retired Bellator greats could have gone to the UFC had they been given the chance, or seized the opportunity presented.
