Nikolas Motta dominated Juan Gonzalez to win the lightweight title at CFFC 79. In a four-round title fight in the headliner, Motta (11-3) beat Gonzalez (7-2) with scores of 40-36 and a pair of 39-37s. His win included three first-round knockdowns – yet that didn’t afford him a 10-8 round from any of the three judges. Still, his performance mostly was a lopsided one to win the belt. Gonzalez kicked early, then bog backed up by Motta’s pressure.

Why is Ben Reiter fighting for free at Saturday’s CFFC 79?

Ben Reiter might walk away from Saturday’s CFFC 79 with a belt around his waist, but he says he won’t keep a dollar in his pocket. Reiter (17-2-1), a four-time Bellator veteran and former wrestler at the University of Pennsylvania, is returning to MMA action for the first time in three years when he takes on Shawn Teed (5-2) for the promotion’s vacant heavyweight title at CFFC 79. While Reiter hopes to capture the title, he isn’t worried about the check that comes with it, choosing instead to donate his entire purse to the sports-based youth development program Beat the Streets Philadelphia, which “uses the sport of wrestling combined with mentorship and academic support to serve under-resourced student youth in the Philadelphia area.” It’s an organization for which Reiter also works as a mentor, even shuttling high school kids around for college visits in the days leading up to his own fight. “That’s just balancing life, that’s all,” Reiter told MMA Junkie. “There’s always a lot going on in life. I’m just feeling grateful to be able to do what I do every day.

During the five-rounder, he dictated the flow of the fight and appeared quite comfortable as he outclassed the title challenger. Bellator bantamweight champion Eduardo Dantas notched the first defense of his second title reign and avenged a loss against Joe Warren , the man who took his belt two years ago. In the Spike-televised headliner of Bellator 166, two of three judges gave Dantas the fight by scores of 49-44 and 48-46, while one judge curiously ruled the fight a draw at 47-47.

Bellator puts down stakes in Thackerville, Okla., this weekend for two fight cards. The first of those events, Bellator 166, takes place on Friday from WinStar World Casino & Resort and features a title fight between bantamweight champion Eduardo Dantas and former champ Joe Warren . The first time these two met, Dantas was the reigning champ, but after five rounds, it was Warren who had his hand raised in victory, getting the unanimous decision nod and capturing the title. Warren surrendered the belt in his very next outing, verbally submitting to Marcos Galvao, who subsequently lost the title to Dantas in his first attempted defense. The last bantamweight champion to successfully defend the title was Dantas, who did so twice during his first championship reign, which lasted from April 13, 2012, through October 10, 2014.
