ONE Championship 52 results: Ting gets split call over Shalorus in main-event slugfest

Ev Ting overcame a significant weight disadvantage and one dissenting judge to score a split-decision win over Kamal Shalorus in today’s “ONE Championship 52: Throne of Tigers” headliner. Ting (13-3), who’s spent most of his time fighting at featherweight before recently moving up to lightweight, decided to compete in the online-streamed pay-per-view main event at Stadium Negara in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, despite Shalorus (9-5-2) missing weight by eight pounds. It wasn’t easy when Ting stepped in the cage, but he showed grit and determination by trading heavy strikes with Shalorus for all three rounds before edging out the win on the scorecards. Given Shalorus’ decorated grappling background, at least some grappling was expected. Neither fighter seriously dedicated his efforts to takedowns or submissions, though, and opened the door to heated striking exchanges. The back-and-forth striking exchanges were tightly contested.

Bernard Soriano took out Mario Wirawan with a spinning backfist just 15 seconds into their fight. And Saygid Guseyn Arslanaliev tapped out Jietebusibai Haolan with a guillotine choke just 26 seconds in. And that wasn’t all. Check out the highlights above for those stoppages and three more, plus a cracking main event welterweight bout between Luis Santos and Igor Svirid. Former ONE Championship welterweight title challenger Luis Santos got off to a terribly slow start but ultimately turned it on late – and then survived his opponent’s late rally – to score a unanimous-decision win in today’s ONE Championship 46 main event. The event, which streamed as an online pay-per-view in North America, took place at Jakarta Convention Center in Jakarta, Indonesia. Santos (63-9-1) overcame Igor Svirid ’s (10-3) initial unwillingness to engage but used a key third-round takedown – and some much-needed defense in the final minute of the fight – to get the win. The first round was a largely action-free affair, with Svirid circling away from Santos, who was left clapping and taunting to try to get his opponent to engage. The ref then pulled out a yellow card (which results in a 10-percent pay deduction), but he inexplicably issued it to both fighters, which brought about a complaint from Santos, who said he was trying to press the action. The lack of action continued in the second round – even as the ref pleaded for some – from both fighters

ONE Championship 41 results: Ben Askren dominates Aleksakhin in non-title headliner

Ben Askren Ben Askren did what he does best at ONE Championship 41. He took his opponent to the ground battered him with strikes until time expired and his record remained perfect. Askren (15-0) was meant to defend his ONE Championship welterweight belt against Nikolay Aleksakhin (17-4) in Friday’s headliner. Unfortunately, Aleksakhin came in overweight and the matchup at Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay, Philippines, was turned into a non-title. The bout still remained scheduled for five rounds, though, and although Askren had a few worrisome moments, he gave Aleksakhin a championship-caliber beating, dragging it out for all 25 minutes.
