Filed under: News , UFC , Videos LAS VEGAS – UFC heavyweight Bilyal Makhov became the first person in 42 years to score world championship medals in both freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling. Makhov earned bronze medals in both disciplines at this week’s United World Wrestling Championships, which took place at Las Vegas’ Orleans Arena. The 27-year-old Russian started his run on Tuesday, earning a Greco-Roman bronze in the 130-kilogram division, capping off his run with a thrilling victory over American Robby Smith. On Saturday, he added a freestyle bronze medal in the 125-kilogram category by scoring a technical fall over Armenian opponent Levan Berianidze. After the win, Makhov told MMAjunkie that after an exhausting run in the world championships, he will not try a similar feat at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Brazil, instead picking just one style.

Bilyal Makhov Bilyal Makhov , an Olympic bronze-medal wrestler at the 2012 Summer Olympics, still has his eye on a gold medal in 2016. But he’s taken a step toward another goal: winning the UFC heavyweight title. His trainer all but guarantees it. “To those who have never heard of me, I want to assure you: You will hear about me,” Makhov told MMAjunkie through an interpreter. The 27-year-old “Bill” Makhov is a three-time freestyle wrestling world champion who has spent a lifetime perfecting his craft. “There are two coaches who can be greatly credited with getting me into wrestling: Magomed Guseinov, who is now the coach of the Russian National Team in freestyle wrestling, as well as Khankala Gadzhimagomedov,” Makhov told MMAjunkie
