LFA looking California, feeling Minnesota for early summer events

LFA has started to set its schedule for the summer months with a pair of events in Minnesota and California in the weekends following Memorial Day. LFA 68 is set for May 31 at Mystic Lake Casino Hotel in Prior Lake, Minn., the promotion recently announced. And the following week, LFA 69 goes down at Morongo Outdoor Pavilion in Cabazon, Calif. Both events have main cards on AXS TV. In the LFA 68 headliner, two-time NCAA D-II national wrestling champion Raufeon Stots (11-1) takes on Brazilian prospect Gustavo Erak (21-4-1) in a bantamweight bout. In addition, Nate Jennerman (13-4) meets Luis Saldana (13-6) at featherweight in the co-feature and Brandon Jenkins (12-6) fights Le’Ville Simpson (8-4) at lightweight.

LFA 45 results: Erick Silva dropped but earns submission win in post-UFC debut

Fighting for the first time since being released from the UFC following a 15-fight run, Erick Silva (20-9) survived some real trouble to score a first-round submission win over Nick Barnes (12-4). The contest served as the featured bout of Friday’s LFA 45, which aired on AXS TV from Morongo Casino Outdoor Pavilion in Cabazon, Calif. Silva opened up the contest with several kicks from range that missed, while Barnes patiently inched close enough to land a sharp jab. After a big exchange of punches, the two moved into the clinch, where a Silva takedown was countered beautifully by Barnes, who was able to reverse as they hit the canvas and briefly hold mount. However, Silva refused to stay on the floor for long, quickly scrambling back to his feet, where both men had some success. In the final minute of the opening round, Barnes landed a stiff right that sent Silva crashing to the floor.

Terrion Ware Terrion Ware (13-3) will soon fight for RFA’s bantamweight title after earning a hard-fought victory over Joe Murphy (8-2) in a thrilling contender’s matchup. The bout served as the headlining bout of Friday’s RFA 23 event, which took place at The Hangar at OC Fair & Event Center in Costa Mesa, Calif., and aired on AXS TV. The two traded in the pocket in the opening round, and while Murphy seemed to be the attacking fighter, it was Ware’s counter strikes that were the most effective blows, and he drew blood from his opponent’s left eye. The pattern continued in the second, though a gritty Murphy refused to quit. A brief takedown threatened to change the flow, thought Ware got immediately back to his feet. Forced to stand and trade, Murphy obliged, though Ware’s counters remained sharp in the exchanges.

RFA 21 results: Baghdad claims vacant belt, Murphy stuns Frazatto

The contest served as the headlining bout of Friday’s RFA 221 event, which took place at The Hangar at the OC Fair & Event Center in Costa Mesa, Calif., and aired on AXS TV. Juusola looked to take the fight to the floor early, but Baghdad showed ample takedown defense and answered with powerful low kicks. However, Juusola continued to push through the strikes and took the fight to the floor on a few different occasions. However, he struggled to keep the action on the canvas, as Baghdad worked quickly back to his feet each time
