FORTALEZA, BRAZIL – On a night with eight submissions, Erick Silva ‘s was deemed the best – netting him an extra $50,000 in bonus money for “Submission of the Night.” Silva stopped Jason High with a first-round armbar to get back in the win column after a loss to Jon Fitch this past October, and he looked impressive in doing so. The welterweights met on the FUEL TV-televised main card of Saturday’s UFC on FUEL TV 10 event at Paulo Sarasate Arena in Fortaleza, Ceara, Brazil. High (16-4 MMA, 0-2 UFC) tried to take Silva (15-3 MMA, 3-2 UFC) down early, but Silva stuffed the attempt and a subsequent scramble on the ground found Silva on High’s back. When Dana White first heard that Jon Fitch described his experience with the promotion as a “hostile work environment,” the UFC boss had to do a double take. After all, he and UFC co-owner Lorenzo Fertitta authorized more than $400,000 in non-contracted compensation for Fitch during his time with the promotion. “In the time Jon Fitch was with us, we paid him $302,000 in discretionary bonuses – $302,000,” White told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com). “That’s money that me and Lorenzo decided to give him above and beyond the deal that he signed. He also made $130,000 on performance bonuses for his two ‘Fight of the Night’ bonuses.
