The UFC on Fox Sports 1: Shogun vs. Sonnen fight card slated for Aug. 17 in Boston will move forward as planned after UFC officials avoided disaster due to Massachusetts’ requirement for all fighters to have a social security number in order to compete. The requirement nearly tripped up several foreign fighters on the card since they would not normally have a social security number. UFC officials worked overtime, however, to make sure that the fight card will move forward as planned, according to a Boston Herald report. Fighters that enter the U.S. with a valid visa can apply for a social security number. It’s a time consuming process, but the UFC worked with the proper authorities to make it happen.

The UFC’s return to Boston in August will go on as scheduled, and the “positive outcome” the promotion was hoping for apparently has been found. The Boston Herald on Sunday reported the Aug. 17 UFC on FOX Sports 1 1 card set for the city can go on as planned. As reported earlier this month, a Massachsetts law preventing foreign-born fighters without U.S. Social Security numbers from competing was putting the show in jeopardy . But UFC President Dana White told the Herald the issue has been resolved.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship is headed to Boston on Aug. 17 for its sophomore effort in the city. UFC on Fox Sports 1: Shogun vs. Sonnen is slated for the TD Gardens and is set to serve as featured programming for the launch of Fox’s new nationwide sports channel, Fox Sports 1. A Boston Herald report on Tuesday brought to light an issue that UFC officials faced in regards to all mixed martial arts competitors in Massachusetts being required to have a valid Social Security number, even foreign-born participants. The report noted that the UFC was seeking an exemption from the law, and suggested that the event could be cancelled altogether if things weren’t worked out. The report jumped the gun a good bit, as UFC sources assured MMAWeekly.com on Tuesday that the event “is not in danger, and we’re working on getting visas and social security numbers. If there is concern over the UFC being able to move forward with its Boston card with the same lineup that has been advertised, fans can perhaps breathe a little easier. The UFC today went ahead as planned with ticket sales for UFC on FOX Sports 1 1, which is slated for Aug. 17 at TD Garden in Boston. The promotion issued a press release for ticket sales, which start on Thursday for the general public, but went on sale to UFC Fight Club members earlier today. As reported earlier today, a story surfaced in the Boston Herald that said some fights on the show could be in jeopardy due to a Massachsetts law that keeps fighters born outside the country from competing without a U.S. Social Security number

Despite a report to the contrary, the UFC on Fox Sports 1: Shogun vs. Sonnen fight card is not in jeopardy. The fight card is slated of Aug. 17 in Boston, and is also supposed to serve as part of the launch-day programming for the new Fox Sports One nationwide sports network. August’s UFC on FOX Sports 1 1 event reportedly could be in trouble due to a legal snafu that affects the card’s international fighters. According to the Boston Herald , the UFC’s debut show on the new FOX Sports 1 channel faces issues due to a Massachusetts law that bars foreign-born fighters from competing in the state without Social Security numbers. That could create problems for the Aug. 17 show, which takes place at TD Garden in Boston. Foreign fighters Mauricio Rua and Alistair Overeem are in the main event and co-main event, respectively fighting Chael Sonnen and Travis Browne , and others are part of the undercard
